CZ Trail 600 - in 7.62x39 or .223?

If you already have bolt guns in 223, the trail wont be scratching any itches for you imo.
7.62x39 bolt guns are awesome and everyone should have one, moreso in your situation if youve already got the ammo. My 7.62 trail LOVED steel surplus ammo. Shot about 1.5 moa at 100yds, never missed the man sized gong at 400. Awesome little gun. The 2 mags it comes with were very good quality, gave me the impression theyd last the life of the rifle for sure. Ive never needed more than 2 mags for a bolt gun myself, most i only have 1 tbh. Semis im the type of guy to have 10 mags per rifle but bolt guns i just am never shooting fast enough to want more than 1 or 2 but thats just me, so wasnt an issue. All that said i sold it and replaced it with a Ruger American in 7.62x39 which is an awesome gun, but i still miss the trail and how compact it was with the stock collapsed.

I think this is one of the guns Rod said that they are giving away Howa Mini 1500) for the 100-gun CCFR raffle...

I may go tomorrow to the LGS just to shoulder the Trail - sometimes the feel and fit will be an overarching consideration.

I have a CZ 600 Alpha in 7.62x39... It shoots incredibly well out to 100 yards with my handloads and quality factory ammo. It did not like the older Sterling Arms "Battle Brick" ammo. It does not ignite the primers. I have not tried it yet with surplus ammo. It does shoot Norinco Red Box, but not very accurately.
 
neither, get the .300blk! not a fan of 7.62x39 bolt guns, the headspace was too loose on allot of ammo with both my old 527 and ruger ranch(the worst action feel in history) I would and have gone with the 600 alpha in 223. Would like to get ahold of a .300blk bbl. the action is well suited for the cartridge(extraction/ejection)

Only problem is I have no 300 AAC ammo...not sure I want to start over. Original intention was to use up the extra ammo I have

Howa mini is a nice, all steel rifle in 7.62x39. Pretty darn accurate. The Jefferson bottom metal (or other aftermarket alu bottom metal) is almost a requirement though for consistent removal/re-torquing of the action screws.

I also have the cz 600 in .223. I added a pic rail to the rear, swapped out the stock, added a thread adapter to the front. Stock swap solved the 3 biggest gripes with this rifle (stock wiggle, stock collapsing unless fully extended and awkward cheek weld unless fully extended).

OAL is 27” folded. Most compact of the bolt .223’s. Nice and light, easy to transport. Loves cross mags. AR ergos and ambi controls (fully ambi with stock swap).

I’m hoping to pick up a 7.62 barrel/bolt face for it when(if) they become available.

My Howa mini with 20" heavy barrel is nice and shoots most surplus ammo. I get a few fail to ignite primers with some Czech ammo, and some other Czech ammo batches no problem. Romanian and Chinese all good ignition. I am happy with it.

I also bought a new Gen2 Ruger in x39. The extractor is a MIM part (metal injection molded) and it broke within the first 5rds with steel case ammo. Others have had the same happen. Not sure if it is only a problem when steel case surplus is used? It got warrantied and Ruger replaced it with a new rifle. I haven't had a chance to take the new unit out.

There is a Ruger billet extractor upgrade for $20usd from AD Arms. Just trying to figure out if USA customs will let me bring this to Canada. See attached.

I have a cz trail in 7.62x39

I love it...
For those that dont like the folding stock because you think its"flimsy" ... dont ever get a m1 carbine paratrooper lol. It takes the correct hold to get the accuracy out of a gun like this. To loose, its sloppy, to tight its twisting up.... i personally have no issues with this guns stock. In the "unlocked" shorter positions, it stills stays in place as long as you dont pull it back further... so... ah... just dont pull back on it and it doest move. its tension isn't easly overcome by "momentum" of moving the rifle around, even a good downward shake using gravity as an assist doesn't make mine slide out another notch.

Its probably the roughest cz bolt ive ever used, it took a lot of practise to get the speed cycling down.
That being said its still better then your average savage.

Accuracy... its ok. Ive owned a few 7.62x39 guns that i would call 500m rifles.... this is not one of them. I just dont think the action and barrel are stiff enough to give consistent enough results to shoot past 300m for anything other then general plinking. Ive doped mine out to 500m.. but its like a 2 out of 5 on a 2/3 ispc target, even with reloads.
As a light compact back packer for hunting... its more then accurate within its effective hunting range.

It has no issues with steel case ammo, i run chinese stuff through mine all the time.

You want 10 round mags... no problem... its an easy dremil job to adapter a bren2 magwell adapter to fit this rifle... the you can use 10 round xcrl pistol mags... you literally just have to enlarge the mag release hole on the adapter to make it work, no mods to the gun itself.

I have another folding buffer tube adapter inbound which hopefully will provide enough clearance to fold flat. Will update when that arrives.

I didn’t mind the OEM stock at all in terms of hold and stability. The ‘wobble’ is easily compensated for with a solid hold and a little practice.

My main reasons for switching were to provide a better cheek weld, allow it to be fully ambi for left handed shooters, and provide a more secure rear sling mount.
The 1913 rail also allows for many more stock options/styles, and the whole ensemble is a few ounces lighter than the OEM stock.
