Rare Winchester 1200 police stainless steel?

All you pros out there…I’m I missing a factory configuration that I don’t know about?

I doubt it PJ.... but I'm no pro and only have one in the stable!

I have both the matte finish "police" model and the shiny "marine" model. Bought them new around 1982-1984.

Winchester advertised them as being stainless steel with a copper plating for adhesion and then nickle plating on top. Both of mine came with full stock wood furniture. I have never heard of any other configuration coming from the factory.

I strongly suspect the gun in question is not original.

What configuration do you have? I also have a few of each. The matte barrels say police and the ones that are polished say a few different things.

and the coating isn't great

The coating is $hit, I have seen new in box ones peeling and flaking back in the 1990s

I owned one back when they were not so cool. Sold it to a movie prop company for $200 back in the day should have kept it they were actually not a bad gun.

That configuration is not rare. There was a Ourdoor Chain in the states, can't remember if it was ####'s or Gander Mountain... something like that that was selling the Marine Defender's with sights in After Market Choate stocks. I had a couple 870 turkey guns back in the day with Choate stocks. It is weird the odd collecting obsessions we get for very mundane and utilitarian items.

I will have to disagree as I’ve been searching for years and only see this setup a handful of times (2x) and their serial number was off by 160 leading me to believe there was a batch made. It’s hard to believe Gander or a similar outfit would strip down a police stainless of its wood furniture and dress it up with a factory Winchester plastic cob and aftermarket swing-away stock. I mean I’ve seen weird things but financially from a business perspective why? Here is a snippet I found online that supports my conclusion. As for mundane and utilitarian items, I find things are not made with the soul they used to. Turkish shotguns don’t have the collectibility of the old American budget-made firearms. Whatever blows your hair back I guess.

Disagree all you want, but Big chains in the states, make special buys and offer special configurations. I highly doubt they bought Marine guns and changed the stocks themselves. This would have been a collaboration to offer this specific configuration. Choate stocks were very popular in.the Southern USA... D*ck's (had to do that due to the auto-delete), Gander Mountain, Guns.com, Lipsey's and several others do these runs regularly. I almost bought two of those guns for my son and I, but went with Rem 870's in Choate Stocks instead... a superior action to the Winchester. In general these special runs are 200 to 500 piece orders. Lipsey's does specialty Ruger configurations regularly that are not catalogued. I guess when you saw those two you should have bought them.

Well here it is. I had some time to pull out what I believe is one of each of my original from factory Winchester defender 1200 / 1300 USA made configurations. minus the one on the bottom that is a Riot. All different in some way. All you pros out there…I’m I missing a factory configuration that I don’t know about?
