I love the in-hand feel of the winchesters but the Henry's have some advantages. One thing (I don't like) is I've heard is that they feel thick, wider in hand. Is this the case and is it notably so or just minor? Thanks

I haven't weighed the two, but I believe the Henry is heavier. Not exactly an apples to apples comparison though. My '94's are in 30/30, my son's Henry is in .357, octagon barrel (thicker up front).

For me, I find Win94s quite ideal for "carry mostly, shoot rarely." That is to emphasise the slim profile in all dimensions makes them easy to hold single handed by the action, in both hands or easily strapped to a pack (particularly given the straight stock).

I find Marlins and Henrys actions nicer for their lever swing and more versatile in a variety of shooting. Bulker everywhere and comfortable for shooting but more cumbersome in some packing situations (eg buttstock in a rucksack bottle pocket and strapped on the side).

Great info, I appreciate it a lot.

I like used guns, and the 94s can be had for less on the used market.

For me the big thing that stands out is straight grip vs not when talking Winchester vs most other common 30-30 lever actions.

And weight. The Win beats Henry and Marlin in that category I think?

I would agree with your statement. If I was choosing a rifle for carrying around and hunting I would go 94 all the way. If I was just buying to plink around either one is a great choice. The 94’s just seem to fit right in all situations when out in the field.
