Good day all I’m not much of a shotgun guy so you didn’t see much of me here but I have a question, I have an old Mossberg 500A 12gauge that needs a new barrel for waterfowl hunting, something that can use steel shots of course and around 30”.
What are the chances that I could find something like that?
This is the shotgun in question.

Is there something wrong with the current barrel? Full choke I'm assuming is the issue?

As far as I'm aware Mossberg 500 barrels are interchangeable as long as the mag tube is the same length. Most mag tubes on the 500 are 5 round, but there is also 8 round ones out there.

There isn't the same level of aftermarket support for the 500s though, so getting JUST a barrel for a decent price isn't always easy, and the retail prices I've seen are close to the price of a whole gun.

Not hard to find replacement Mossberg 500 barrels, at least not with a fixed choke. Might be able to find a take off from someone that tacted up a 500. I'd probably opt not to to put on a 3.5 inch chambered barrel on it since they didn't come with that as an option.

The only thing that seems wonky with those old Mossbergs is that if ever you want to replace the mag spring, the tube does not want to come off. If anyone has a solution for that, I'm all ears as it won't budge.

Mine came off using a heat gun first.

Full choke would have been the reason, but the real reason is the barrel was at one time chopped to 18.5”… 🤫

Hey nothing wrong with that!

If it was just full choke I would have said you could get it opened up, but evidently that's already been done a bit too much lol

Although now that I've looked it up, Mossberg doesn't recommend steel with the fixed choke barrels.

So I guess you're looking for a 5 round accu-choke barrel. As stated above, the Maverick 88 barrels also fit 500s (the 88 is basically a 500 with a different trigger group).
