So I got that feeling and it’s time for to pick out a new caliber and have another barrel made for the TC encore. I am stuck between another pistol caliber barrel, possibly a 5.7 or 10mm or a small bore like 17 hornet, 17 rem or 204. What ever I go with it will be a short barrel 15ish inches. It will be a fun gun maybe carried around the farm for popping gophers, magpie, coyotes ect. I am open to caliber suggestions other then ones I gave as examples, the only requirement is the caliber has to do well in a short barrel. Let me know your suggestions.

If I was to do a pistol cartridge in a rifle, I'd pick a cartridge that gains a lot in a rifle barrel over a pistol barrel. 357 or 44 magnum or one of the lengthened magnum cases if you are fine with expensive brass.

I think the 204 looks fun. 32 gr bullets at 42-4400 fps. That should vaporize a magpie. I grew up hunting those things on a farm, they learn real quick. I stuck one of them into the wall of the garage with an arrow a few feet up one day when I was about 14. They are really hard to hunt with a traditional bow.

You mentioned the 10mm, so how about a 400 Legend? A super angry 40 cal compared to the 10mm (or water it down to 900-1100 fps with cast bullets), as long as 'long range' isn't your goal.

I white tail hunt with a 350 legend now my thought is yes the 400 is a 40 cal so bigger then 350 but why does it offer other then size over the 350

IIRC between the 350 and 400, more energy down range and the same basic trajectory for the larger cartridge. There's also the potential to give it a lil more kerpow in a "not a semi-auto rifle" seeing as it's a bit detuned for all those in free countries that can use it in the AR. If you can't find a spot for the 400 Legend in your collection, it doesn't hurt my feelings at all, just figured it's easier to throttle back a 400, than to load a 10mm to the max.:)
