IVI 9mm specs

Shot off a pile of those 64 round packs that my grandfather had stashed away. Flawless even after 50 years and had noticeably more punch than commercial 9mm like cci blazer

That is what it is designed to do. 🤷‍♂️

I kinda thought it might penetrate deeper into the kevlar panel. There are stories of this ammo blowing through body armour yet this experience says there is no way that would happen. Maybe the body armour it was able to penetrate was only the old style flak vests? The vest I used is WAY out of date and only level 2A. It would have no chance against current level 3A

It is the powder charge that differs (or differed) from civilian-equivalent ammo, lending the CAF-issue ammo its increased velocity which was originally designed to function reliably in blow-back-operated submachineguns such as the WW2 STEN and the later C1 (simplified Sterling) SMG. I do not know of the current specs have been down-loaded to commercial-equivalency for the new SIG M17 sidearm.

A bit of 1980s trivia for you - my original HK MP5 owners manual stated that Israeli IVI "Black-Tip" and Canadian IVI 9mm ammo were to be avoided lest it damage the firearm. If those specific types of 9mm were to be used, the MP5 was supposed to be fitted with a stiffer Operating Spring.

In ye olden days when I was an undergrad BCRA had annual matches with smg's. For $10 you got 50rds of ammo and a big sergeent gave you an SMG and another $10 another box of 9mm for your 9mm pistol (or you could use a beat up government Browning. The troops took it seriously and never shot their SMG on full auto. Most of us civilians would play nice till the last string then flipt bhe switch and watch our hits move up Burnaby mountain :). At the end of the match you gave the big soldier back his SMGs and fired brass. They all went back n the big green truck. I went back to my basement suite to study with a big smile. Odd, nobody got hurt, the realm did not collapse, I often wonder what brought us to our current situation..sad.

I have some of the International Metals (I think thats what it was called) ammo that came in years ago and those 70gr bullets would penetrate a 2a vest. However I have tested some 80gr frangible ammo and it would not.

Ha not theory.. but if you get ahold of a 3a panel, ill send a whole box.
