I had two different individuals this past weekend advise me that non antique flintlock pistols still may be bartered between individuals and are not effected by the Liberal handgun sales prohibition. I looked at the antique firearms flow chart and see nothing in referance to what they are saying. Am I in the dark here? Has something changed?

I could be wrong but according to the RCMP website, non - Antique flint lock pistols are considered Restricted firearms, while Flint Lock Long guns regardless of age are considered Antiques. Even replica flintlock pistols, if you drill the flash hole then it must be registered as a restricted firearm.

Muzzleloaders made after 1898
All matchlock, flintlock and wheel lock long guns are considered antiques no matter when they were made. Like older firearms of these types, they are exempt from the licence and registration requirements set out in the Firearms Act.
Percussion cap long guns and muzzle-loading black powder handguns made after 1898 are not considered antiques even if they are copies of an earlier antique model. Newer percussion cap long guns are classified as non-restricted firearms. Newer handguns, including matchlock, wheel lock and flintlock handguns made after 1898 are classified as restricted if their barrel length is over 105 mm (about 4 inches), or prohibited if their barrel length is 105 mm or less.
Firearms that discharge black powder cartridges
A firearm that discharges black powder cartridges might be considered an antique if it was made before 1898, but not necessarily. It would depend on the caliber or gauge. For example, a shotgun that discharges 12 gauge centre-fire cartridges would not be considered an antique no matter how old it is. More information on which ones are antiques is available by calling 1-800-731-4000.
Go figure our wild and crazy gun laws. Perhaps a call to your provinces CFO or RCMP number above for the correct and legal information would help.
Antique pistols are still permitted to be battered for. But Restricted pistols can not. Until some idiot robs a bank with an Antique Flintlock and the Liberals take that away from us.
Even Replicas that function but do not have the touch drilled, if you drill the touch hole to make them fire, they must be registered as Restricted firearms.

I don t think you have anything to worry about as it would be more practical to ban baseball bats than flintlock pistols in fact baseball bats have be been used to kill numerous people as opposed to flintlock pistols in modern times.There is a big learning curve in shooting flintlocks especially for them to shoot reliably and I don t think many criminals would waste their time trying to learn something that only fires once /maybe? when even something as simple as a baseball bat is a better choice

one interesting situation is that for the first 5 or 10 years of antique handguns being based on the caliber they currently were in, the RCMP re-interpreted the law to say a pre 1898 handgun had to have been made in an antique caliber to be an antique. A pre 1898 handgun rebarreled or rechambered from a no-go cartridge to one not on the list, remained either restricted or prohibited. The significance is that pre 1898 handguns deregistered because of current caliber is now modern although not registered

You and the others are correct: either Restricted or Banned, depending on barrel length, like any modern handgun.
