FN 5.7 x 28

These are all legal...and live in my vault:)

Ok, so they are legal... I still find it strange that the prohib ammo list says 5.7 x 28mm for P90 are a no no and I cant seem to find it on that other list of ammo that can be imported.

Interesting that the FNUSA box even says right on it "Sporting Cartridge"

Did you have to import them yourself, or can I actually find a "store" that will sell them?

Hey Mopar,

I have been talking with the guy from Elite Ammunition in the states. He apparently has 30-40k pieces of Brass that he would be willing to sell to me... (obviously I dont need that much... :)). I am wondering if this is the route that I might have to take to find the ammo.

I am going to try Arnies later on today... see if he has it, the cost, and how much more he can get (if any)...

Any luck on your end?

CK

Another update Mopar,

I talked with someone at Arnie's Guns in Prince Albert.
Apparently he has 3 boxes on hand right now and they said more on the way at some point.

$69.99/box (ouch!)

With shipping these things are going to be over $2 per round...

But, if they can bring them in (assuming that its all legal) then we should be able to also!

CK

What will the cost be to legally import the brass (import/export) ?

I know that there are prices like 19.99 USD in the states... I cant imagine that it would be 3x that to import, as long as its all legal.

I've been calling with no answer. I guess these guys usually like you to leave a message and they'll call you back. I also sent an email asking them to explain this ludicrous situation to me.

Right now there are only two ways to get it in the country. A) on a police or military end user certificate, not legal because you'd be lieing on a government document B) pick up less than 5000 rounds stateside and bring it across the border for personal use, but you'd be breaking American law. So for the moment we're out of options.

Including a small markup an importer should be able to sell it for $30 a box if buying in bulk. Because of the small market it may be $35 for a single box, but $60 or $70 is just over the top. Of course it's supply and demand, so if that's what they want to ask then more power to them.

Strangeday's stuff is 100% legal for any Canadian citizen with a hunting license to purchase or possess, the only problem is the powers that be will not let any into the country!

Less than $100 worth of brass can be imported from the USA for the cost of shipping and tax, any more than that will require a USA export certificate, which will require a Canadian import permit or certificate (I'm not sure which). If IIC's cover brass then you'd be okay to import a million empty brass pieces, but if you need an Import Permit then you'be be denied just like I was.

What I dont understand is that we took a trip to Cabelas in Michigan and a friend of mine bought a case of shotgun shells...

Does that mean that he was breaking American law by doing that? There were no issues at the boarder... they just made him pay the taxes...

Oh, and the guy that said he would ship brass also said that he ships it to Canada all the time... I am checking to verify that he means he ships the 5.7 brass and not just some other stuff.

Here is our conversation...

Re: Brass and ammo

I've sent at least 50,000 pieces of 5.7 brass to Canada in the last 3 years.

I've sent hundreds of pounds of brass to Canada in the past few years. I've never had a problem, neither has the guy on the other end. He's up in Whitehorse, though. I'm not sure where you're at

I just want to make sure I understand everything first before I try... If I try something and I end up attaching a "record" to my name, it will make things harder down the road.
I dont have my FiveseveN yet, but I am getting prepaired.

Have you sent any 5.7 x 28mm brass to Canada before? What about brass in general?

Thanks again,
Chad

If you need a source for 1x fired brass, I can probably help you with that. I'm sitting on a stockpile of 30-40 thousand pieces.

I'm one of the owners of Elite Ammunition, btw.

Chad - check out the LEGALASE section, they'll have lot of info about what you can and cannot bring into Canada. As for the live shotgun ammo, it's not Canadian law, they couldn't care less, it's US law that is being neglected.

I just heard back, they're going to review my request and get back to me. :dancingbanana: The dancing bannana is probably a littel preemtive but hopefully they understand how nuts it is to make federal policies based on the request of a foreign manufacturer... I'll let you all know the verdict!

Well he has said that he is going to send me brass and mark it for use of scrap... I think I will need to reload for it anyway, so having extra brass will be worth it.

As for the ammo thing, I understand now. I told my friend today that he was basically breaking the laws in the US... just got lucky that he made it back to the boarder. You might make it 99 out of 100 times, but all it takes is that one time to screw things over!

APPROVED!

Heard back on Friday and my application will be processed! I've never really been able to take no for an answer...

Anyhow, now that it's approved for import, and with more and more pistols coming in, hopefully some dealers will be stocking up on it.

So this means that you have an approval to bring in a limited amount of 5.7 x 28mm ammo, is that right?

Or does this mean that you can bring it in whenever you want? (haha)

I might also have a line on with a guy in Montreal that has 30,000 rounds of brass that he wants to get rid of... when I know more I will let you know!

Hey Mopar,

My FiveSeven is out for delivery to my house today... How has your ammo quest been going?!

CK

So far the only place that I can find the ammo is:

Arnies in P/A Sask. has ammo...it's FN...i don't know much about the ammo as it doesn't float my boat......Phil(owner) has a Contender barrel on order in that cal...he and I are buds. and play around with all kinds of wildcats. He is the Canadian supplier(new) for A-SQUARE and has a few rifles coming in including a .500 and possibly a .577 t-rex. I just mention the last bit to show the kind of variety Arnies has or can get. Call him and see....306-922-7292, looks like undersized .221 fireball to me, can't imagine it would be very effective.

I called and someone confirmed that they had 3 boxes at the time and were getting more in... they were 69.99 a box plus shipping... little to expensive for my liking.

I did hear Mark from Questar and someone else say that someone is going to be importing ammo soon and we should hear about it.

I dont exactly remember now, but that might have been plus tax...
It was crazy expensive... IMO

By the time it was shipped I was looking at over $110 CDN for 50 rounds...

Needless to say I didnt buy any.
