I was hoping you guys would have some good recommendations for an optic for the cz trail in x39. Not the most accurate bolt gun, so I don't need anything high end and will do majority of shooting out to ~200m. I was looking at the Arken EP-8, but if you guys have some alternative that would be great. Something budget friendly and not fragile would be great.

I just got a discovery optics LHD 1-6x24 for $176 delivered for this same rifle in .223. Has illuminated fire dot and weighs 560g. SFP. Includes scope caps.

Was going to get the Primary Arms SLX 1-6 with fibre reticle, also SFP, but for a third of the price I thought I’d try the Discovery. I’m very impressed for the price point.

Not sighted it in yet but I’m sure it’ll perform nicely.

Just bought one in 223 and ill use the vortex pst-14st-m 1-4 x 24 I had on my ar-15.

I dont know what scope mount to use though. Ive been seeing cantilever with 1.5 to 2 inch offset online but not sure.

$500 will get

Primary Arms, SLx 3X MicroPrism Scope, ACSS Raptor 7.62X39/300 BLK Red Illuminated Reticle

Not the most versatile but I always thought it would be a great match for that rifle.
The only caveat is the 5x version I run is a bit tighter on the eyebox, not sure what the 3x would be

From PA I was also looking at the SLx 1-6x24mm SFP. Similar price point and maybe a bit more versatility

LPVO makes sense to me, lot's of good choices out there.
The 3x prisms short eye relief usually means it has to hang off the back of the receiver closer to where the rear of a LPVO would be.

They make a GLX 1X that apparently has much better eye relief, it came out a couple of years ago and I'm surprised they have not released a GLX 3X yet with similar improvements. It's not as easy to do with more magnification but some people say the GLX 1X has red dot like eye relief as in close to unlimited.

I'd wait patiently for a GLX 3X and just go with a nice LPVO.

The Arken EP-8 is a nice optic if you like the rather unique FFP reticle.

The Continental line from Vector Optics is well regarded for good glass and they offer fiber optic red dot's which are brighter if you want to use it during the day.

Yeah I'm interested in the fiber wire optics as well like the PA slx 1-6x. I have seen that the wire can come loose upon impact (albeit I don't know how hard that impact needs to be, and hopefully never smack it around that bad). I dont mid the reticle all that much on the Arken. It would take some getting use to and idk how weird the hold overs would be using a 5.56 reticle on an x39. But ive seen some people give them rave reviews and read some threads about them on here, but wanted to see if it'd be a good fit for the rifle.

The Arken is designed to get 5.56 on to a chest sized target at varying ranges quickly and effectively.

Outside that use there are better all round reticles in my opinion, the Continental is a pretty simple reticle with a the fiber bright red dot and some 1 mil (8x)hold over marks for longer range, It's Second Focal Plane so the 1 mill hash marks will change as you go down from full power but that can be useful in it's on way if you play with it and find out the different hold points for your load

Here’s a link to the Diacovery 1-6 I mentioned. I tried an ARKEN EP but I found it heavy and the reticle just not to my tastes for a bolt action.

The vortex crossfire lpvo has a decent reticle but the glass is really no good. Illumination also pretty pathetic.

Bushnell AR 1-4 or 1-6 SFP reticle not fine enough and turrets not positive enough.

This discovery is a far better optic.
Has good eye relief and a decent eye box at 6x.

SFP over FFP everyday for me on this kind of reticle/optic.

$174 delivered taxes in by using the 10% off code (just google it).

And no I’m not a shill.

Too funny. I just installed an EP8 that I literally bought from a GP seller late last night on my new 600+ Trail (in .223). Came already installed on an Arken mount so saved me time and money. He had it on his Tavor 7. Wasn’t necessarily looking at an EP8, but was looking at an LPVO that wouldn’t break the bank and the EP8 was listed and the seller was only 24 minutes away.

I do like the fact it has illuminated reticle settings as well as NV settings. The circle reticle is fairly large and will take time to get accustomed. Will try it Sunday afternoon when I get to my club

Haha seems we have very similar taste in rifles.

Would you recommend a discovery mount to go with it or something else?

I bought a set of their 7075 34mm 0.94mm high rings rather than a mount. They do seem nicely machined. Height is good on my setup but I don’t have the OEM stock installed so not sure what would work best for you.

Any mount/rings of choice that are a comfortable height for you while maintaining a decent enough cheek weld should work nicely.

OK...so, these work very well...5X Prism for $120. Are they a Vortex Spitfire, sure seem the same, same weight etc.

My guess Vortex builds them offshore to save then the factory just keeps producing them. Offshoring manufacturing ...what is good for the goose is good for the gander. Lesson don't get stuff built in China to take advantage of their low cost then import to North America to take advantage of our High Prices. ....

The eyebox is a bit of a challenge so use a Cantilever.
