Alberta spring bear HELP

We drove lots last spring thinking we would get into one, but nada! The year before didn’t drive half as much and could have shot 3-4. So this spring will be like 2 years ago, spot and stalk, sit where you can glass hill sides, when you see something that is what you want stalk it. It might not be easy… but it will be gratifying to get a bear that is not a dump bear or highway bear. Oh and up here we can’t bait for anything really.

Why?

All the areas he has said he has hunted are loaded with bears. Why go all the way to SL?

And yes, I’ve killed lots of bears, including up at Slave Lake.
I cannot recall the OP mentioning Slave Lake; if he did, possibly not hunting the right area to connect. I gave great advice where to hunt.

Why not? Sometimes you need to change scenery to find what you are looking for, it becomes “your spot”. If you are lucky in an area you tend to be going back to that area… I know that is what I do for most of my hunting!

My first bear hunt I asked a friend where to go and he gave me directions and I followed them to a T and there was a sow and two cubs there and ran into a boar latter a few hundred yards . This was in the Porcupine Hills . Other place was East of the highway at Chain Lakes and my biggest was on the west side of Chain Lakes. But you have to put time in also. Also south facing slopes down there have bears if you put enough time.

I’m in Calgary I’ve gone all over the place, bearberry, Rocky, burnt timber, Caroline, porcupine hills. The list goes on. And yes baiting would be good but with really the best place close to me that you can bait being a few hour drive it’s not really doable from my understanding as restocking would involve approx 5hrs of driving a week.
More bears than trees in Northern Alberta. :ROFLMAO: Grizzlies ? I live near Sundre and don't go in the woods around here without protection, most of the WMUs around are closed to baiting for the same reason. We just don't have the density of Blacks to guarantee a successful hunt and Grizzlies regularly kill them as well.

You’re hillarious! 🤣😂

Ya, not enough black bears between Sundre and the Rockies for a successful hunt, grizzlies eat them all! 😂🤣 I know where your place is. I know you are old and portly, maybe you should get out more.

The north is full of bears, I’ll give you that. Been there many times. For the most part you aren’t killing a black bear unless over bait.

I live in the Porcupine hills, full of bears, black and some grizzlies for sure. Get out and look, they are here. It’s not rocket science.

Come to bc. I’ll hunter host you and you can have your pick of bear. They are already waking up and season is three months long. I’ll start chasing them last week of April
Unless your closely related you can't be a hunter host. Please reveiw the regs..

A non-resident alien (a person who is neither a resident nor a non-resident) whose relationship to the applicant is one of the following:

  • Parent
  • Parent's sibling
  • Spouse
  • Spouse's sibling
  • Spouse's parent
  • Sibling
  • Sibling's child
  • Sibling's spouse
  • Child
  • Child's spouse
  • Grandchild
  • Grandparent

You do know what an alien is correct ?

I think you in fact need to touch up on the regs between the two of us lol.

I have someone from Ontario flying in may 4th for a week of bear hunting in southern B.C.

Riddle me this, how do these folks from other provinces get issued a B.C. tag and successfully a hunt a bear here with me then?

Key rules for a Permit to Accompany:

  • Issued to a BC resident hunter
  • Allows hosting up to 2 non-resident hunters at a time
  • Required for big game hunting (moose, deer, elk, bear, etc.)
  • Host must:
    • Be a licensed BC hunter
    • Accompany the hunter in the field

  • The non-resident still needs:
    • FWID
    • Non-resident hunting licence
    • Species licences

what you linked is if someone wants to host a person who neither lives in BC or Canada… say, an American citizen. In that case they would have to be off your aforementioned list.

Fact of Life, go out around here and you're more likely to see a Grizzly than a Black bear.
