Hi everyone, its mt first time posting here and my first time fully rebuilding a gun. I got given this shotgun by a good friend and he says its over 100 years old, it was pretty rusty and gummed up, I spent a day cleaning it putting it together etc, everything works freely as it should now.. except the hammers wont fire. Some point during reassembly one of the firing pins went off but im not sure how I did it, now that its back together they are both cocked back but pulling the trigger just makes a clicking noise and nothing happens. What could this be?

Something is misaligned. Take the stock and cover plate off and try to see what's wrong.

Be aware, that the action pins that the lock work pivots on are not meant to be interchangeable. They have a specific order, front to back. The sears, tumblers and cocking dogs will also be specific as to left and right.

This video is one of five in a series. A search on youtube will turn up the rest and they're very imformative.

Pictures of the gun would help a lot, preferably showing the action without the butt stock on so a good view of the internals can be seen.

Pictures would be nice, especially since I was not aware that B.S.A.Co. made a hammer gun.

If it is a hammerless gun, it sounds as if you tripped the sears when re-assembling it, or did not #### them before the installed the action plate.
Thank you for the tips, I couldn't figure out how to post photos. It wants me to link it from another site, not my phone storage. Will try again.

Yikes that was a pain to figure out. I'm terrible with computers etc. here's some photos, I am not completely familiar with the parts everyone listed above I should look for but I will search it up. if anyone can see anything wrong that would be awesome! thanks guys. I can post the stamps on the gun too if anyone is curious as it seems to be a not very common one when i try and look it up.

i posted some photos below, i didnt remove anything besides the leaf springs that are screwed down. i didnt want to knock any dowels out in case i did that. if you notice anything wrong let me know! thanks

What is wrong here is you are trying to fix this yourself. You do not have the tools nor the experience required. Get it to an older experienced "doubles man" and have him examine it.

I live in remote Yukon. and if I don't try I'll never learn. I have the entire thing apart right now and the problem diagnosed, the inside was too grimy and stuck closed. i would rather fix it myself any day of the week that way I can do it again etc..

here is the problem, i assume this is the leaf spring which releases the pressure of the firing pin when the sears are pulled. could i buy a replacement of this? how would i go about finding anything like these? thanks everyone.

Good for your dedication... you are into it now. To clean it and get the old gunk out, you can soak it in lacquer thinner and blow and wipe it dry... then oil it lightly [G96 Gun Treatment] and wipe it.
New hammer springs should be available, possibly a little refitting required. There will be some difficulty installing the new springs if I remember correctly.
While you have it apart, if it has an automatic safety engagement when you open and close the action, I suggest you disconnect the auto part so your safety only operates manually. That way you can release the hammer springs on closing the action for storage without dry firing.

Two broken mainsprings. A couple of years ago I picked up a top lever spring from a seller in the UK. I'm having trouble finding the link again now. If you can find someone that has them in stock that would be the easiest option.

If you go through the Jack Rowe series of videos on youtube there's a tutorial on how to make springs, if you want to diy. Expect a lot of trial and error and failures.

The final option would be to send it off to a good gunsmith and have a couple of springs made. That will likely cost more than that old gun is worth.

Thanks man. It was fun pulling it all apart it fires now just not with enough pressure to set off a shell. Going to see what I can do about the springs. I dont have many tools to do so as I im still young and just started living on my own, so I would have to watch and find what I need. Thanks again!

Appreciate the advice. I will see what I can find, I was thinking if I could come in contact with a gunsmith who makes springs I may be able to ship the broken ones to him and have them copied, I'll see what I can do. Thanks again.
