9422 project money pit

I don’t get it. The nicer it is the more reason to use it. Let me share a little insight. My grandfather would buy a brand new Oldsmobile 98 and immediately put plastic seat covers in it. My Grandmother would get mad a say “why should I have to sit on plastic just do the next iwner can have new seats?” You can keep that in the safe but you can bet that the next owner will use it and maybe best the hell out of it and, if you are not careless when you use it, it will retain the same value as if you didn’t use it at all. Just another point of view to ponder.

Beautiful gun and at current prices on these things I don’t think you will lose or wasted one dime.
Thanks for sharing who and where you sourced the wood and services.
I have Per doing a stock for me currently; he’s a super nice guy who’s incredibly talented.

I have no shortage of guns that I haven't shot at all. Some I bought brand new, and have been sitting in the safe for years. I even have a 1905 Ross that I fixed up, much like this Winchester, that I still haven't fired.

I've come to realize that I actually just don't shoot that much in a year. When I do, it's usually pest control more than target practice.

But even if I don't use these things, if I sell them for a value that I'm happy with, I don't care if the next owner drags them behind their truck on the way to their shooting spot.

Thanks!

I have my doubts that if I listed it in the EE today, that I'd get my money back. However, I didn't build it just to try to flip and make a buck.

I actually very rarely even see a 9422 for sale. They seem to be in the $1200+ range for the regular old shooter grade guns.

Also I agree about Per, he's a super nice guy and I would go back to him for future projects!

Oscar is a legend in the color case hardening world, not sure how much longer he will keep going,so i''ll be talking to him about doing some work for me for sure,i have quite a few 9422's,and would love to do a color case job on one of them,

I've only had 3 different projects done by Oskar so far, but I have yet to be disappointed.

The Ross receivers definitely produced nicer color than this Winchester, but I'm still pleased with all of the results. And, as much as I hate projects like this (because they always drag on longer than expected) I'm sort of thinking of another I might try to tackle.

I want to get as much of the color case hardening done while Oskar is still doing it.

Not only is he an excellent craftsmen, he is one of the nicest people you can meet. I've been to his place a few times. Awesome collection of rifles he has, and the stories he tells, you could sit for hours listening. I hope I move back to NS and see him again before too much time passes. He's probably my favorite person I've met through guns. b_noser is a class act as well. He introduced me to Oscar
