Twist in particular is the big thing. 1:10 is standard for 243win and is generally suitable for bullets up to 100gr as long as they're not a super-high BC design.

Looks like Sierra's test rifle for 6x47 was a 14-twist though, and their load data only goes up to 75gr bullets. Just checked Hornady, same thing, 14 twist test rifle. If yours is also a 14 twist that'll definitely limit your options.

Twist will be a big factor. Have you looked at nosler 70 gr ballistic tips?
Where are you hunting fallow deer?
Straya mate!

Nah the BT are expensive here.
But I'm not against working a suitable load of expensive projectile down the track!

Thinking a Grand Slam would be cool!
Or go Heavier as shots not over but out to 200m Say..

Might even go lighter 55-60 for dogs and kind of has to be minimum 80gr for the deer but can slide to 70-75gr... šŸ™ˆšŸ™‰šŸ™Š

Oh goodness.
I just purchased 350 projectiles to try.
I've got.

- Speer 75gr HP x200
- Speer 100gr Grand Slam x50
-speer 85gr SPBT x100!

Froffing out 🫣🫣

85 grain Speer’s will be the one!

Minimum expansion velocity will be the undooer for many of the heavier bullets, do your homework, and chronograph your loads…….

Oh ya, double check that rifling twist, as not too many 1 in 10 twist 6x47’s were made,

It's apparently a 1:10 twist.
22.5 inch barrel
And throat I'm not sure if yet. I get my hands on it next weekendish
a 1-10 twist will allow you to use heavier bullets. In that case I would try the 90 gr bullets from Nosler and Hornady for your deer requirements. Or the 95 gr Partitions if you can find them, they work very well on deer sized game. - dan

It is a rebarrelled 222rem mag.
So sort of custom job - my mate did the cleaning rod thing, I'll double check when lands here .

Yeah sweet got chrony an will do some testing for the Grand Slams

I've always wanted to use a grand slam bullet , didnt work out in 7-08...maybe the little Six !!

The current Grand Slams are not like the original ones, there’s no dual core in the smaller caliber offerings, essentially they are a glorified Mag-Tip.

Maybe a Barnes 80 grain ? Depends on where you wanna/can hit the fallow...

Quite a few Euro fallow farmers/breeders use head shots to harvest the animal within 150 metres on the fenced pastures. They are going for head shots because they have minimal meat loss.

The Barnes is a great bullet for that.

Yeah, Nah. Been through all of that with the 7mm.

With a MV of around 2500 fps, and if the bullets shoot, you’re essentially shooting a 250 meter cartridge, since they say 1800-1900 fps is minimum velocity for the 100 grain Grand Slam….. just so you’re aware.

The 85’s will give you pretty much another 100 meters range without dropping below the expansion threshold.

In essence the 6 x 222 REM Mag isn’t a 100 grain friendly cartridge, heck it was essentially built around 65-75 grain BR pills.

What do you want to do with it is the biggest question?

I have been using the 70gr Ballistic Tip in both a 243W and a 6BR and that is one fantastic bullet.

I've shot the 70gr BT to 700 yds with excellent results. Your 6x47 is a bit faster than the 6BR so it should have no trouble reaching 700-800 yds.

Might even go lighter 55-60 for dogs
When you say, "dogs" what does that mean? Big rodents, like Prairie Dogs or actual dogs like fox and wild dog?

I've used the 70gr Ballistic Tip on gophers (ground squirrels) as well as coyotes, which are essentially the same as your wild dogs. The 70gr BT KILLS EVERYTHING. Out of the 243 it was like the Hammer of Thor. Not one coyote ever took more than a step before dying. Out of the 6BR it has been fantastically accurate and blows gophers to bits. NOTHING walks away from a decent hit by a medium weight Ballistic Tip. I'm a huge fan of that bullet.

Sweet! I shot some 70 gr ballistic tips in my 244 rem today! For a deer bullet I like the 90 gr hornady eld-x in my 1-10ā€ 244 rem.

Good luck on the fallow deer! I am trying to arrange a fallow deer hunt in bc. Here it’s shotgun only but I think a 222 or 223 with a soft point bullet would be perfect for them.

He means wild dogs/dingos. Coyote size dog

With the small case capacity, the heavier side won't be going very fast, better penetration but less expansion.
If you are culling small deer and dogs, cheapest lead tip in the 60-70gr range will do fine.
TNT are pretty light jacketed and grenadey, they are accurate too, I like them for not worrying about what's behind whatever is getting removed, they pretty much frag and don't exit unless it's something pretty small.
