My work visa just got approved, and I'll be moving to Texas in the next few months. I want to start saving up for my next purchase, which will be an AR, when I'm considered a resident (roughly 3 months after I move).
What would you get and why? (I want to keep the price point to around $2500 USD, but I'm willing to spend more if there's justification.)
Not looking for a DMR-type rifle - something with a 14.5" barrel and a full-length rail. The only aftermarket parts I want to install are a Giessle trigger group. Not sure if I can qualify for a suppressor/moderator as a resident... So let's leave that off the table (for now)
I've made contact with an FFL in the city I'm moving to, so I should be able to access any make/model.
Don't hate the player... Let's try to make this fun!
EDITED WITH NEW INFORMATION:
For anyone considering a move south: I spoke with the BATFE about using a Form 6 NIA for "temporary import" so I could bring a rifle and a couple of handguns with me when I move. It works for that, but if you leave the US for any reason (i.e. a weekend family visit), the firearms have to go with you. I was hoping that they could be safely stored at the place I'm renting. No such luck.
