What AR should I buy?

My work visa just got approved, and I'll be moving to Texas in the next few months. I want to start saving up for my next purchase, which will be an AR, when I'm considered a resident (roughly 3 months after I move).

What would you get and why? (I want to keep the price point to around $2500 USD, but I'm willing to spend more if there's justification.)

Not looking for a DMR-type rifle - something with a 14.5" barrel and a full-length rail. The only aftermarket parts I want to install are a Giessle trigger group. Not sure if I can qualify for a suppressor/moderator as a resident... So let's leave that off the table (for now)

I've made contact with an FFL in the city I'm moving to, so I should be able to access any make/model.

Don't hate the player... Let's try to make this fun!

EDITED WITH NEW INFORMATION:

For anyone considering a move south: I spoke with the BATFE about using a Form 6 NIA for "temporary import" so I could bring a rifle and a couple of handguns with me when I move. It works for that, but if you leave the US for any reason (i.e. a weekend family visit), the firearms have to go with you. I was hoping that they could be safely stored at the place I'm renting. No such luck.

FightLite is a Florida company.... support the locals!

Might as well start with a pistol,

iu

And save up for a belt fed rifle... :)

PWS or one of the new MR556 guns would be where I would look. Over your stated budget but they're top notch - something to consider anyhow.

Edit: nevermind I didn't realize the HK option was that far out of your budget šŸ˜‚

14.5" upper with a pin and welded muzzle device of your choice to avoid NFA, plus whatever lower receiver you want. There is a 11% federal tax on complete rifles. You can avoid most of it by buying lower and upper separately.

Personally I'd go piston over direct impingement to avoid gas to face while firing left handed. PWS MK114 is a strong contender.

BCM uppers are very good if you want DI. Their enhanced lightweight barrels have excellent user feedback and works fine for 95% of use cases.

PSA sometimes have sales on complete lowers, some come with Gisselle triggers or A5 style buffers pre-installed.

the guys I knew that had a Daniel Defense rifle never complained, never had to justify their purchase, they were just a boring rifle that ran and ran.
I’d start there if I was going to use my rifle hard.
But for ā€œcoolā€ stuff I’m always drooling over CMMG and Noveske. No idea if they’re actually good.

Daniel Defense DDM4-V7-SLW

Excellent quality rifles (sad to see my old one sitting in the safe). Pinned/welded muzzle brake and the rest meets your specifications.
Trigger is lacking for the price point so yes, get the Geissele.

I'd love a Giessle or a BCM. I intend to go with a DI rifle, not a piston. I have DD upper, and it's great, but I've heard their QC isn't as good as it used to be.

Lima 6 + FRT and some muscle relaxant to get the s*th eatting grin off your face afterwards

I wouldn’t get too crazy, get something that is a good brand with a good reputation and then spend the rest on ammo
Once your set up down there save up for a class 3 full auto something and shoot at a mountain of poly pop cans with the biggest grin on your face ever

Why don’t you just stick with the Akdas Alcor?

I'm quite sure I'd be able to stuff myself in your luggage.....

JP Enterprises JP15.

The only rifle I have ever regretted selling was my JP15…Price point currently starts at $2100USD and you could definitely get the config you outlined above for the $2500 neighbourhood.

I have never shot a nicer, softer shooting and more reliable rifle…ever. Only sold it to finance a higher end JP build…and then May 1, 2020 happened. I still get tears in my eyes when I think about that rifle.
