These look pretty cool.
I think steyr is barking up the wrong tree with their monobloc system especially when everyone else is going to user swappable barrels.
A “disposable” rifle that I would buy if it were offered at a “disposable” price say $1000 or less

It’s a rifle geared towards hunters, I doubt anyone who buys this rifle will be wearing out the barrel or wanting to switch to the newest trending caliber.

I think I partially understand their target market. Maybe it’s a European law thing I don’t quite grasp?
Hunters that I know ( admittedly my view is narrow: millennial age and younger Albertan)
Absolutely are wearing out barrels and switching to the trending caliber every other season

…and these are likely to retail north of $3000 here

The hunters you know must be regular shooters then, I was referring to the hunters that only shoot 20> rounds a year where a barrel will last a few generations if neglect and rust don’t ruin it first.

I didn’t think the price would be over $1800, but at north of $3k for a basic bolt action it’s almost certainly geared towards those people who have money and wouldn’t care if a “disposable” rifle was $1000 or $5000 and long as they have the latest Euro tech during their hunt.
 
I wouldn’t be surprised if they will offer seperate monobloc options for users. Their website shows the whole machined monobloc barrel/action. I am guessing with cnc machining that these parts would be interchangeable. Probably similar cost to a Blaser R8 barrel. That said 308 Win and 30-06 Sprg will have near 5k hunting life in them. As a driven hunt rifle, the rifle is not an extreme cost when you check out the costs of a driven hunt.
