I had my eyes set on the CZ Bobwhite G2 for the longest time only to find it's been discontinued.

Things I'm not willing to compromise: Double trigger, 26" or longer barrels, interchangeable chokes, 6lb Max (ie. Must be built on a 28ga frame), $1500 Max

Things I'm flexible about: Pistol grip stock preferred but I'm willing to settle for a straight stock.

Any recommendations for a similar gun?

The old Huglus were made by the same company that made CZ's. The new Huglu company (Huglu Byuk? sp...)appears to be a different company.... Too bad you are stuck on a double trigger, otherwise Churchill would be an excellent choice.

For what its worth i own a linberta made by buyuk and its well made on a common Turkish action but mine is an ou unsingle combo with adjustable rib.
Patterning turkey loads last week the Turkish ou threw denser patterns through mobil chokes than my new beretta 688 with ochp chokes

Yes. They are true scaled frames. I dont own a sxs 28 by them but have shot a couple. Smaller than my 20 by a noticeable amount
IMy Huglu 20 gauge SxS had gritty triggers, but otherwise was a decent shotgun, just clumsy and heavy compared to my 28, and even my 20 gauge SxS shotguns. But in all fairness, my other SxS shotguns were much more expensive.

My 20ga straight stock dual trigger huglu is thicker in the wrist than need be but it fits and I dont mind the extra heft for steel loads. Triggers on all mine are decent. Better than any cz doubles ive shot. Better than standard pump guns but far from triggers such as perazzis and k80s but again they were 1200 to 1800 bucks

I used mine for upland birds, so a lot of carrying, and no steel shot. So for my uses, lighter is better. The Huglu receiver and stocks are heavier than required, but for the price , there isn't much to choose from in SxS shotguns.

I do more duck and dove hunting than true upland. Im still young enough a 6.5lb gun doesnt kill me after a 10 mile walk though

I just carried a beretta 688 for over 5kms the other day and didnt find it overly daunting.
Carrying in a blind a bag of turkey decoys calls and 2 range finders 2 binoculars and 2 chairs plus my daughter's backpack and cooler bag is a different story.

However for subgauge guns I dont think anyone is bringing in huglu guns now that prophet river stopped. That's where I got all mine. Tenda has the buyuk lines and there's several Weatherby dealers. Add Churchill and That's about all there is sub gauge doubles under 2 grand worth owning. Next step up would be FAIR RFM and fausti and thats a alot bigger step up in price

When people ask about cheap SxS shotguns, I recommend that they consider an O/U, or a semi auto or pump instead. I tried a Huglu, as a crappy weather gun, and to see what kind of quality you could get for $1000, at that time. A friend still shoots that gun, and he is happy with it, he only gets out a handful of times every year, and didn't want to spend a lot. My SxS shotguns get used 25-30 days every year, so I don't mind spending more for quality.
