prity sure i know the answer but cant find it in print actually. there is no barrel length requirement for a rimfire as long as overall length is 26 inches is that correct?
 
No. There is no length of any components for a manual action or rimfire firearm, provided the shortening efforts don't result in a firearm that could be defined as a handgun, or involve folding, telescoping, etc. However, these must be new components, and not altered or remanufactured components; ie, you cannot cut down the barrel and/or stock to reach the sub 26" length.
 
yes if it is a collapsable stock it must measure over 25 inches collapsed i would think

the cutting a bbl under 18 i know yes not allowed. but shortening a stock ? so long as my minimal length is over 26 folded it should be good ?
 
Basically you are trying to avoid 2 situations making a prohibited firearm or a restricted firearm.

prohibited firearm means

......
  • (b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,
    • (i) is less than 660 mm in length, or
    • (ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,

TL;DR keep overall length over 26" (660mm) in its shortest fireable configuration (stock folded or collapsed if adjustable), and don't saw a barrel shorter than 18" (457mm) or saw a stock shorter even if you have a legal barrel length >18".
 
You guys are complicating things LOL. In simple terms...

If it's 26" long and can't be folded and fired then you're good to go. As long as you bought the barrel that length and didn't cut it yourself.
