Varget vs n140

Who’s swapped from one to the other? I’ve read some people have landed back at the exact same charge after working loads up in the same rifle?

Any truth to this?

I’m planning on swapping my 223 from varget to n-140 in the next week or so… shooting 85.5 bergers.

I haven't changed anything in my .223's in years - Varget all the way.

N140 is slightly faster than Varget, so IMHO, I would reduce your present load by 5% and start from there.

I haven’t used Varget in my 1:7 223, but N140 has been very good so far with the 85.5 Bergers.

I’d stay with varget but I decided to make the switch last year with all of the tariff bs came about. I’m going to keep using varget in my 6br until the barrel is toast though.

I recall my buddy mentioning that N140 is more dirty in the barrel than Varget. You will have to clean the bore more often with N140.

I’m a Varget Guy in my 6 GT and 308 as I have a BIT of it but I know guys using N140 and doing Well with it

D4064 (Dominion) is close to Varget too, if you can find a CGNer willing to part with some. I was using it with my old barrel and 90g Bergers.

In .308 with 155 gr bullets the load is the same between Varget and N140. I am not a numbers chaser and have not compared velocities between the two. However known elevations from 300 yards to 1000 yards are the same. I still have ammo loaded from last year with N140 as I finish off the second 8 pounder, but found some Varget and will be going back to it.

N140 is definitely NOT DIRTY! Works great in my 223 1-9” with 70gr Berger’s and in my 308 with 168gr. It’s also a better buy than Varget if price matters.

Not dirty but maybe sooty? first patch easily clears it out even after several rounds, imho

I burn Varget in my 308's as well , it meters well enough that inside 600 i just throw it without a need to trickle up.

I couldn’t get my 223 to shoot with varget , switched to n540 and it’s hammering pretty good now so also another option to look at

N140 and 75 eld didn't do well for me. Prefer Varget.

I use Varget - its been my go to for 223 + 5.56 for many years and easy to get locally.
