USS Pittsburg had a manufacturing flaw exposed during a typhoon.

"Personnel are cautioned against opening the forward bulkhead hatch while ship is underway..."

Crap welds gave out in high wind/wave conditions. She was repaired and returned to service for another decade before being scrapped.

I'm seeing your point. But the Whirlwind is still a looker in my books. :)

I've mentioned my disdain for the design team at Blackburn before. It was like they were allergic to ###y curves and good proportions. Witness these monstrosities:

Ghastly, every one. Hard to believe the same nation could build DeHavilland and Blackburn products.
