Perfect Pattern Powder in 20 ga

There are no recipes on the Hodgdon reloading website, they are the definitive source. PP is way too fast for 20 g, meaning to get any decent velocity, you run into pressure problems.

Thanks Cosmic. But many say the same thing about Red Dot and Promo in 20ga. yet I've seen recipes that have been tested showing they both can be shot without worries when dropping to 3/4 oz. I seen the same for PP and have tried some 3/4 loads with 12.5 grains of PP. They shot great and patterned great at 22 yds in a 30" circle giving me 90.5% pattern density with a 26" barrel with skeet chokes. The same person had some 7/8 oz loads checked and they were up in the12000 psi range and not recommended for tubes. My 12 ga 7/8 PP loads also produce hi density patterns. With Allianz powders being unavailable I've been trying to find loads with what is around. The nice thing is PP pricing is still low also.

OK - Doing some rough math, you are under 1000 fps for your custom 3/4 oz loads. I've played around with sub-sonic loads years ago, they didnt break clays reliably. How's it working out for you? BTW - Why dont you contact Hodgdon directly, they should be able to give you some definitive info.

Thanks for your calculating, but I think you really have to be off. These loads were tested down in the states by another reloader and he claims 1200fps. I typically try and reload everything for that speed 12, 20 or 410. I shot these loads a couple times this past winter and felt they were no different than my Promo 3/4 oz loads. My leads were exactly the same, kept up with my typical 23 average. A few years back I dropped some 7/8 loads down to 1050 range and really seen the difference in leads. Might just contact Hodgdon and see what they say? Don't know if they will be honest about this as their in business to make money and they do that by making lots of different powders?

There is a trapshooters forum in the US and guys on there have taken loads they come up with and sent them in to get pressure tested and they have a sticky on there where people post their results from the pressure testing
They might have the data your looking for as someone there may have sent in some 20 gauge for pressure testing using perfect pattern
Doesn’t hurt to go have a look

Perfect Pattern burns too fast for 20ga. Even faster than Red Dot which I wouldnt use for 20ga either.

Use Longshot or 572 for 20ga 7/8 oz. Shouldn't be too hard to find those.

If you want a 3/4 oz 20ga load with a common 12ga powder, theres a tested load on shotgunworld using High Gun/Tightgroup that I found interesting.

Thanks, yes I did find some loads with High Gun/Tightgroup as you mentioned. Just have lots of Perfect Pattern and the price is the cheapest, also it uses less grains so it's a win win hopefully.
