Managed to find some Russian soft points for hunting at the Orangeville show sunday.10 bucks a box,not bad I guess.Should have bought more though. The vendor has a shop in Bancroft a little too far for me.Anyone know of shops in the Cambridge area that sells softpoints?

The only soft point 7.62x39mm rounds I know that can be found locally is a brand called "Prvi Partizan". Its Serbian produced ammo, with reloadable (I think) brass cases.

Was the brand you bought called "Wolf"? Were the rounds polymer or lacquer coated and steel cased?

I have never seen wolf for sale anywhere in Canada. The only place I have ever seen the prvi partizan ammo is at H&H in Brantford. It was 13.99 a box.

I am very interested to hear anything else on this topic. Cheap, non corrosive 7.62x39mm is high on my wanted list.

I know you can buy 7.62 X 39 from LeBarons made by remington, box of 20 for $21.94 125gr, these are core-lokt....so if they have them I am surprised other dealers would not have them as well. For hunting I don't mind paying that kind of price but for just target practice mil surplus is the way to go!

I sourced 6 boxes of Chinese soft point, 6 bucks a box... No opportunity to try them myself, but a buddy did drop a nice little buck with this ammo 2 years ago.

Cheers
Jay

i picked up a battle pack of 120, 123 gr hollow point non corrosive, made to hunting specifications printed on the label. russian but no wolfe logo . was a sealed plasticized cardboard battlepack. in b.c. from a guy on in the ammo exchg.

A few years ago I bought 1200 rounds of Hungarian soft point ammo.
It was still corrosive, and steel cased, but shot great.

It shot about an inch and a half higher at 100 yards than standard Norinco "silver box" ammo so I think it was a fair bit "hotter". I never did get a chance to Chronograph it to see how much though.
Also never tried it on deer, but sure made short work of coyotes...:D

I think soft points are non existent in the Mtl. area.

Its the same bullet as the .303 British, I use Sierra 125 grain sp or if those were scarce Hornady or speer. I load the same bullet for small deer in the .303 I use here so it keeps bullet choice simpler!
