Good-day All, my question to all the experienced target shooters is simply this: I want to purchase a rifle for only target shooting out to 300M, and I want to reload my own ammo for this rifle. What rifle and caliber do you recommend that will do the job and in which caliber? Thanks for any advice and replies!

Welcome.
Really depends on your budget but my first thought is a 222 or 223 if only going to 300.
I have both and super accurate once you find what it likes. Berger bullets are usually extremely accurate.
I'd handle a few firearms at dealers if you can to see what fits you best before deciding but Tikka or Cz come to mind as standouts.
I also have a Weatherby vanguard heavy barrel in a MDT stock 223 and it's very accurate too.

If your range goes to 300m and you will never shoot farther and are going to be shooting targets only from a bench, then I would not want an efficient cartridge as that would get boring to me pretty quick.

My choice for shooting 300m would be .22LR. Close enough that it is not random, but far enough that you will have to compensate for any wind and temp changes. If you want to go centrefire to reload and shoot really tight groups, then I agree to pick up a heavy barreled .223!

Shooting something like an SKS is also pretty fun at 300m steel targets.

Your budget will determine the rifle you end up with. Lots of factory match ammo available today. If your going to reload, make sure you can obtain quality brass. The 223 would serve you well and it wont get boring. Try ing to shoot tiny bug holes will be a challenge and the wind will affect bullet impact at 300!

A. You don't buy "the best" target rifle, you have it custom built.

B. The single best cartridge for a target rifle is 6PPC, but that can be a PIA because it uses a non-standard bolt face. The best cartridge choice for the best target rifle is 6BR. Uses a 308 bolt face and is effortlessly easy to load for. Also ridiculously easy to shoot and super accurate. There are factory built 6BR rifles available. Note: 6 Norma BR is the same as 6mm BR and 6BR.

I have a savage 110 varmint .223.
I've won the benchrest competition at the club a couple times with it now. Punches way above it's weight class. A good 5 shot group at 200y is 1/4 moa. A bad one is 1/2 moa. I'm still getting better with it, it's my first bench rifle.

Second the 223 for a 300m range toy, especially if the goal is also to reload. Lots of factory loads made with quality brass, no shortage of components and load data. As for the rifle, that's going to depend a lot of budget and taste. One of the advantages to reloading the 223 is being able to run heavier bullets out past SAAMI COAL- but you need a magazine (detachable or internal box) that will accommodate the longer rounds. STANAG mags and factory mags like Tikka's will restrict you to the standard 2.25" COAL.

For 300m 223 is the best choice hands down.

I had mine at the range today and shot it at 300m (& 400m & 500m).

But as someone else said 22LR is another option. I had one of those there today too and while I made lots of hits on steel at 300m it was quite the challenge as it was windy.

What discpline you would be shooting? F class, benchrest kind of which people shoot for minimal group size or impact only which like PRS?
Would you have access to longer distance sometime during the year or in the near future?
Budget?
