We are looking for help estimating the value of a Colt New Service in 455 Eley. The gun appears to have had a large ramp target type sight installed and it has what appears to be walnut grips. Blue book lists the New Service between 400 - 1400 but what is the real market value in Canada. Any pics of New Service I have been able to find show a much smaller front sight so I believe this gun has been modified. The grips dont appear to be original either. It may very well be a good shooter but does anyone have opinions as to what its value may be?
Thank you
Otto

I believe mine to be original and couldn't tell you what its estimated value is. The bluing is worn over most of it, the bore is excellent, and it functions well. If I were ever to sell it(NOT!)I wouldn't take less than $500.KD

If it's of any help, I paid $395 for a Smith & Wesson 455 that is in good shape except for holster wear (blue worn away on sides of barrel). Unpleasant to shoot, the grips are too small. Prefer my Wobbly.

Try one of these grip inserts on your big Smith & see if it doesn't improve your grip....

On the New Service question.... our local shop has two out, one in .455 and another that is ex-RCMP in .45 Colt. Both are ~ $900 asking price. Been there quite awhile with no takers. My bet is the one as the topic of this thread would go for $350-$450'ish. But it would be better to assess from pics... ;)

No New Service had a ramp sight.

Think low rather than high, for a modified gun without original grips. Original unmodified .455s could be found recently for @$300
