Was out shooting a few rounds of skeet, shot a round with the .410 then switched to the 16ga useing some factory rounds thst a guy gave me. 3 1/4, 1 1/8oz, 7 1/2 Winchester “long range”. Well half way through the round, the rear trigger was stuck in the “fired” position and I could see that the left lock was sitting a bit proud so I figured “no problem, the lock was just not tightened all the way and moved so the sear slipped off the trigger. Didnt have a screw driver so just finished the round with the 410. So I get home and remove the lock bolt and, what do you know, the bolt was broken. I’ve never seen a lock bolt break from recoil before. At least it’s an easy fix. IMG_3137.jpegIMG_3136.jpeg

So, I finally made time to make a replacement lock bolt. The original was 8-32 but the hole in the off side lock, while the threads were clean and sound, the fit was sloppy ( more like 9-32 if that existed). I didn’t care for the loose fit so decide to go to 10-32. I don’t typically like to “modify” vintage guns but in this case, some previous owner (for reasons that escape me) filed off all the chequering so there is no loss of value or history by changing the bolt size. Anyways, got the bolt made, went to blue it snd for the life of I could not get any colour. Then it hit me, I went and put the bolt to a magnet, yup SS. FFS. NOT impressed. So back to the drawing board and made another from a grade 8 bolt. This is my “practice” bolt. IMG_3154.jpegIMG_3155.jpeg Here is the grade 8 bolt finished and installed.
