I should have never sell my Brno ZH305 7x57r over 12g. I’m looking to buy an other combo gun, I think FAIR but I ain’t sure, the FAIR are closer to my price range than any others, blazer, Merkel etc are way to much for me.
I think I would like something in 7x65r( first choice) 9.3x74r or 30-06( got lots of 30-06 so lots of components to reload with).
I read good things about the FAIR and I know some models have single set trigger for the rifle trigger, I like set triggers my self!
Anyway… just started this cause we don’t have much threads about the combination guns and I’m bored, it’s too focking windy to go to the range and I wasted time this morning so no bear hunting either…
What do you have for combo gun, what would you get, why and in what chambering?

I tried combo guns many, many times... I like the idea of a combo gun much more than the reality. Versatility is their selling point, but also the reason I don't ever keep them... they are not focused enough for the task at hand. If I am hunting big game, I am focused and prioritizing big game, not usually taking pot shots and grouse and hares, and vice versa, when I am hunting small game, for the most part, I don't need to lug around an extra centerfire barrel. Combo guns are a great "idea" but in the field, just fall down on focus... at least, for me.

Yeah, they are not a specialized gun per say, but I did like the one I had for walking the forest and camp while moose hunting, shot a few grouse, but was still ready if a moose would have come out or you see one across the river etc. It wouldn’t be my main rifle that is for sure but for a camp gun or forest walking gun I think they make lots of sense for me anyway.

I solved that issue by throwing a folded Badger in my pack...

I have a BRNO combo gun in 12ga/30-06 ....

I think it depens on your hunting style if these guns are useful or not.

I am the opportunistic hunter .... in the fall I have permits/tags for waterfowl, upland game, turkey and deer and coyote.

I might sit in my ground blind by the pond in the morning observing the geese and ducks. And when nothing else shows up I will take a goose or two. If a deer shows up ... oftentimes I take the deer. Sometime I have the taste for beaver .... so a beaver it is.

Had a flock of turkeys come by my waterfowl blind one morning .... and I harvested a turkey.

Sometimes a moose shows up at the pond .... but we are not allowed to harvest moose where I am.

I had that same gun in 7X57R/12 ga.

I have used a combo for awhile now and have actually shot a few moose it while carrying it while chicken hunting. It’s an opportunity rifle system that does work. Still if targeting one main species, a rifle it is but lot time I do carry a lil badger in the pack

Not for me. Those badger series rifles are so cheaply made they really are pieces of junk… to me anyway.

They get the job done. Might not be pretty or super comfortable but they have a decent trigger and can kill small game.

I agree with Hoytcanon, I've always liked the idea of them but any time I owned one I sold it because it never did feel as good as a rifle or shotgun on its own. It's like an El Camino, do you want a truck or a car?

But if you carried a rifle and strapped one of these to your backpack would work for the small game. It's semi auto, 7 round and less then 2 pounds loaded. (Oops that pic it's missing the rear sight)

Never warmed up to any. Same as drillings, not fish or fowl. Had a 12/u 8mm that was fun but didn’t seem to be what I wanted. Intersuplus has lots.

That "piece of junk," can it a dime every time at 20 yards with CCI Quiets. I shot dozens of birds with it last fall... it is inexpensive, but it works.

Can't argue that really.;) Fer me though, its always been my Cooey model 39 that I bought back in '70 off an amigo for 5 bucks.
I remodeled the bugger soon after to suit me best for meat & pest missions and she still sees use. I've always preferred wood
and blued steel over synthetics.

I've not owned a combo gun, but have tried a few over the yrs.

Oh I don’t argue that the little badger doesn’t work, they sure do and I shot one many times, but they are not for me.
Anyway, as usual people are not responding regarding the question but instead tell others what they use or not use… typical of cgn and or forums I guess hahaha. Oh well.
