Archangel® Quick Break-Down Stock for Standard Ruger® 10/22®

https://promagindustries.com/archan...stock-for-standard-ruger-10-22-black-polymer/

I'm quite late to the party, as I never knew this even existed. Does anyone have any experience with this stock? It seems like it would have all the benefits of a 10/22 Takedown without any of the drawbacks.

Also, do any online retailers carry this in Canada?

That's not the first aftermarket product that offers this function. Years ago one of the well-known makers built a stock that was hinged in the middle and "broke" open, which released the tension on the barrel dovetail/block of any 10/22 and allowed instant removal of the barrel. Re-assembly just involved holding the barrel in place and then unfolding the stock back into the assembled configuration, which put pressure on the barrel block to retain the barrel in place. Difficult to describe, but it was very similar to the clamping action on a set of Vice-Grip pliers.

A friend owned one of those back in the day; sounded great, but didn't really work that well, very inconsistent assembly pressure from one take-down to the next.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing.

This stock appears to work in the exact same way as a "normal" stock and the barrel slides in and out. Technically, this should have consistent pressure between reassemblies, if the bottom lever applies equal pressure every time.

Again, I just discovered this product from a recommended video on YouTube, after searching for 10/22 Takedown models. I have no clue if it actually performs well, hence this thread.

The Promag website says it's "out of stock" and "add to wishlist", so perhaps it got discontinued...?

In looking at that video you linked above, I can see that this new stock is worlds ahead of the old one I mentioned. I've been trying to find a picture of that old one...I think it was called the Ram-Line Packer...but have had no luck.

I discovered another stock by an outfit called AGP in the states, which also allows quick takedown of a standard 10/22 rifle, but it apparently only works with the AGP barrels so it's a bit more limited in scope.

This new ProMag stock is very appealing. I hope we see it soon up here. :)

At one point Butler Creek made one but pictures are hard to find online.

Just buy the takedown. The bag it comes in is worth the price increase.
The takedown in a magpul backpacker stock is about as good as it gets for an elegant design.

The only real downside is it's heavier then say something like a Chiappa Little Badger, but the trade off is the Ruger is a full size, semi auto and the 10/22 offers lots of mag options in free states and accesories and custom parts are easy to source.

I've got both the Takedown 10/22 in a Magpul Backpacker and the Chiappa Little Badger. They both have their strong points and weak points, but I love them both.

That being said, I'd be very interested in this Archangel stock because :

A) Ruger seems to have DISCONTINUED the Takedown models in their new and updated 2026 lineup. This information is not yet confirmed, but that's what's been circulating on Ruger forums. So far there's no ETA on any new Takedown models.

B) Having a stock which allows for a normal/traditional 10/22 to become a "Takedown" opens a ton of options on the "cheap". It may also eliminate some of the floating zero issues that the real twist-in barrel Takedown is known for.

That being said, the new 2026 lineup of 10/22's have a "pressed in" barrel, which requires the receiver to be heated up a bit for barrel removal (this is said to enhance accuracy, but makes barrel removal a lot more difficult). So, the Archangel Break-Down stock may not work very well on those models, I suppose... but it should be a banger on all the 1964-2025 models, of which there are over 10 million in existence.

Looking into this for you guys to see if we can get them from somewhere.

Quick note, it can be fired with the buttock folded so barrel length will be a factor.

That is awesome news, thank you!

Some sources that appear to carry it, albeit either OOS or do not ship to Canada :

You bet, we have an inquiry in with ProMag to see if this model is still being manufactured.

What I'm seeing is everywhere I can find it in the US has low stock or none at all. And it's not available for purchase on ProMag's website.

But we'll see what they say! I will update you guys.

Discontinued? Where are you seeing that. Ruger website has multiple takedown option still listed.

You are correct. I just checked and the Ruger website seems to have been updated.

The talk of Takedowns being discontinued was all over Ruger forums and YouTube comments, since at first only the 5 basic models were advertised for 2026, not including Takedowns. Hence why people thought Ruger quietly dropped the model.

If you go to their website today and click on the "Standard" model, the Takedown and a few other "niche" models will pop up. False alarm, luckily! Good on that, as I need another X-22 backpacker and the BX trigger on the new models is very nice.

That being said, a well-designed stock enabling the old school 10/22 to become an instant "Takedown" would be sweet! I'd wager that it would sell extremely well, given how many "normal" 10/22's are in circulation. I'd definitely buy it.

Btw, I've recently bought a couple of things from Parts Only Canada and the service was awesome + prices very reasonable.

:)

My opinion is that this version of a Takedown conversion was never produced . The Ruger TD was introduced in March of 2012 , this version. in 2018 would have been big news.

I did a search on rimfirecentral.com, one of the go to sites regarding 1022's and other rimfires. Searching ProMag yielded no mention of this stock. Many hits regarding their other 1022's stocks.

Thanks for the kind words, and thank you for your business.

Update on the situation: ProMag is still manufacturing this stock. However, they are indeed out of stock and the replenishment date is currently unknown. This was confirmed to Parts Only Canada directly by ProMag yesterday afternoon.

In the meantime...it's not as cool as a full blown takedown stock, but we do sell these screws (click here or click the photo) which allow for toolless stock removal on a standard 10/22. Will fit stocks/actions that use the factory profile stock/action mounting screw.
