Hello
Is it possible to buy a Colt SAA from the states if it meets the antique criteria?

Such as this?

if it has an FRT entry showing Antique status, it comes through mail without an issue (ie you pay HST on the value imported). you can always use an importer if the US auction house does not want to ship across the border - which is completely legal from both US and CAN standpoint if the item in question is indeed an antique on both sides of the border (there are differences between CAN and US definition of "Antique" mainly in caliber, but also cutoff year). look up Canadian Antique Firearm Flowchart - it was posted on CGN some time ago (just do a search for it).

I have gotten several firearms from the US and I'm quite familiar with the process. Some auction houses will ship to Canada, others and most private sellers won't. If you have to use an importer like Irunguns or Borderview, it'll cost you. Borderview charges $299./pistol plus 10% of the purchase price and that's in US funds. On top of that, you have to pay the 13% HST on the purchase. I have a buddy in the US who'll take possession for me and ship it. Just and FYI, if you buy a pistol from a US vendor have them put something like "Antique S&W" or something similar on the customs declaration. Never put anything that says pistol or firearm or gun! Also, as jord21 points out, that caliber is not considered antique as per the RCMP.
