$15,000 Valmet 88 Rifle - M78 LMG, Excellent Condition, Bipod, Original Leather Sling

A friend of mine was selling 3 of these at the Calagary show a few years ago. He brough them up from the US from a big auction. They were priced from 8500 to 12500 and all came with 1 mag each. Bit rich for my blood for something the gun grabbers will eventually go after.

An idiot with one of the only Valmet LMG in Canada.
It's not the only one. It is one of very few. And so what, there are loads of people currently in possession of Type 81 LMGs that cost a tenth of that. The only difference is the Valmet can legally be bought and sold. Functionally, the Valmet is a degree nicer than the Type 81 and thats it.

If the argument goes to, the Valmet can be taken out and shot, when collectors item become so expensive, actually using them reduces their value and so they cease to be that useful thing and simply become an expensive widget that can't be used for fear of destroying their value. It may as well be a dewat at that point.

Irony is the idiot who buys this has the same attitude towards you as your user name, lol.
That is very possible.

Given our circumstances, you know very well that any Valmet IS indeed special.
Its not. It is a stamped AK with a better build quality.

I have multiple 12x classes and so can buy way more interesting things than that at way better price. If I really wanted an AK, it would certainly be within my reach. I just think AKs are garbage. 🤷‍♂️

I recently grabbed a very nice G3 for $2800.

My dear friend, scarcity, whether created by human or act of god, will drive the price high.

Welcome to Capitalism 101.
Capitalism 101 requires demand. Scarcity only drives up prices if demand is there. A scarce item that nobody wants will still be cheap.

An entrepreneur could get himself a type 81 lmg at a tenth of the price.
Exactly.

And once all these idiotic bans work their way through to fruition, Type 81 LMGs should be fairly easy to acquire.

Anyone who spends that kind of money on a rifle like that is an idiot.
With the wild government induced inflation, $15,000 is not much money anymore.
One years property taxes for some.
Lots of crazy people spend $100,000 on a pickup truck that will be worth $500 scrap value in 14 years or less.

Also, for the younger crowd that has never owned and enjoyed AK's the only other alternative is the black market.
That will not be cheap either.

Note the price back in the day in 1988 on the advertisement.

I want a Time Machine, a Flux Capacitor and a Delorean!

Exactly

It’s like the price of a decent quad or sled.
Which as you noted, some folks are buying annually.

It wouldn’t be Christian to talk about Y2K “buy” prices for HK UMP, nor the 2010 sell prices.

12 in Canada.
10 solely on account of the questionable declarations (movie industry) guns vs the 2 sole remaining defence guns.

Ask me how I know…

If you give the “it’s a superior gun and worth the money” a friend is likely going to refer you for an IQ test.

They’re rare in Canada. The market price reflects it. Look south to US for Type 81 pricing to regain a little bit of equilibrium.

$16k + at last time I cared to look (it’s been a bit). Maybe some lip action to smooth the deal. And if (IF) you’re nice…

Maybe.

Before anyone starts in on “luck” just realize I took a loan (from those pirates at Wells Fargo no less) at prices that still turn heads.

Instead of questioning folks with the means to manage their own affairs, some of you arguably need to get a good deal heavier in the ass
