Sometimes the date of manufacture is on the barrel flats. Usually a 3 digit number. ie: 354 third month 1954.
Darryl
There are no such numbers on the barrel flats or water table. However, there are three numbers directly infront of the flats, stamped 3.34. I have the Standard Directory of Proof Marks (light green book) but nothing indicating dates. The shotgun is a 12 gauge, true sidelock, 30" barrels, French-Grey reciever with black rotating cocking indicators, French-Grey grip cap and fore-end metal, engraving on all metal parts.
March 1934.
Post a few pics of the gun. Sounds interesting.
After a little more sleuthing it turns out the gun in question is circa 1895/96.
Don't know your serial number but my Sauer sidelock has a serial number of 1445xx. When I asked about it on doublegun back in 2011, it was felt it was from 1908-1912.
Brian, turns out his is extremely close to mine. In the five digit range. According to the Sauer book it’s in that 1895 area. BTW how much does yours weigh?
12 gauge 70 mm chambers, not a date stamp.Hi everyone!! I'm looking for a side-by-side barrel j-p sauer and sohn a got the manufacturer date 12/70 but a can't identify the caliber do you have some tip ???
Thank
The numbers you indicated means: 12 for 12 gauge, 70 means 70 millimeters or 2 3/4" chamber. Searching for a barrel only, will be most difficult. I know the thread is a couple years old , but did you ever find the date of manufacture for your JP S & S?The numbers you indicated means: 12 for 12 gauge, 70 means 70 millimeters or 2 3/4" chamber. Not officially did I find the date. It shoots as well as it looks. I purchased shorty shotgun shells (1.5") to hunt Ruffed Grouse, while up north hunting whitetails. I never did use the gun except to test fire it. This past Christmas, I gifted 4 firearms to my son and the JP Sauer side by side was one of them.I know the thread is a couple years old , but did you ever find the date of manufacture for your JP S & S?
Still have it and how does it shoot ?
