Hi everyone,

So my first purchase went a bit awry, went in looking for a security pump, came out with this guy. I'll spare you the story, but once I held the Battue I was in love. I also wanted something I could shoot without having to think (or spend) too much on an optic that afternoon.

So, I am left eye dominant, and naturally right handed. I am very comfortable shooting left handed...which has been my solution since I was a young lad. The so-called problem with the Battue, is the philosophy of the gun is speed (yes, maybe I should have got a lever action...) and with my left handed shooting I am a touch slower than if I was shooting right handed.

In my cursory research I learned about offset scope setups...and then I came across the idea of keeping both eyes open using a red dot or 1x-4x optic...both of which suit the short-medium range that I would be using the Battue. I want to keep the iron sights for backup. I am not sure how I feel about a quick detach setup, seems having both scope and irons functional at the same time leads to some awkwardness (scope height).

Feeling a bit overwhelmed with all of the rail, rings, and optic options....and wanted to see what other cross dominant shooters have done for short-medium range? I would be looking at something mid-range budget wise. I don't want junk, but I also don't need anything too crazy given the distances.

What do I plan to use the Battue for you ask? I got the .308 for ammo variety as I want to develop good fundamentals with lighter loads...as I have a Lee Enfield that between my inexperience with recoil, the heavy trigger pull, the 300/600 yard peeep sights...I am not having fun. I wanted something I could learn to shoot well from 50-300 yards as that is the typical distances I can safely shoot on my property. Woods and open marsh, small lakes etc.

I shoot’s right handed and am left eye dominant as well. When I shoot, I just close my left eye about halfway. But gently. If you squint it closed, when you open it again it will be all blurry. I learned to do this when I was a kid before I even knew anything about eye dominance. It’s never really been an issue

Cross eye dominant shooter here-- learned to shoot with both eyes open. Was encouraged to do most things right handed as a kid (I was more or less ambidextrous), but I really wish I had've stuck with shooting left. I didn't realize how much the eye strain was a factor until I started shooting rimfire PRS matches with stages that mandate shooting support side. Shooting with my dominant eye (still both eyes open) is so much more relaxed especially at the end of a 2 day match. All of my instincts and muscle memory have evolved around right handed shooting, so it feels like switching would be a serious investment.

All that to say that whatever you do, you can likely figure it out. If you're planning on competing though, there's something to be said for shooting with your dominant eye, whatever that looks like

Shoot with the frosted lens on the dominant eye. Scotch tape works, even just the center of the lens!!
