Norma Ammo Real World Experience

Ok so not the same calibre, but my dad shot a small bull moose last fall with 150gr Oryx in 270
1 shot clipped heart and got one lung really well. Bullet captured in off side hide from roughly 240-270 yards broadside. Good bullet expansion and weight retention. I don’t call, but think it was still weighing 120+ grains.
Accuracy was good, but it’s a boring ole Rem 700 that shoot everything pretty consistently
I reload all my wife and my rifles, but my dad doesn’t shoot enough at 79 to warrant handloading. For a factory option that isn’t horribly priced, I was pretty impressed.

Thanks for your input. I only use my 300 Win Mag for elk and occasionally moose. So I don't reload for it. I've used Hornady for previous elk harvests and it performed fairly decent. One shot was through the neck (not ideal but the only shot available and it dropped like a rock) and the other was one shot through the heart and it ran for another 100 yards until I put a second through the lungs. So I'm not opposed to buying more of the Hornady, but I was offered 200 rounds of the Oryx for less than half of retail and figured it would be a decent round from the reviews that I've been able to find. Most of the reviews have been from professional writers though, and you have to take them with a grain of salt.
It would be the top of my list to try particularly at current prices and as long as shots were not expected to be on the long side. Small hands on sample size but they seem tougher than federal Fusions but still expand well. If cup and core doesn't give you the warm and fuzzies but you don't favor the monos and want to roll factory it would be tough to beat.

I load the 196 grain Norma ORYX in my 325 WSM. I can drive this bullet to just shy of 3000 FPS, using
a load of MRP. It is very accurate in my M70 Winchester.
2 years ago, I shot a 5x5 Bull Elk at 280 yards with this load. Elk dropped within 30 feet.

In a trading deal, I acquired 2 boxes of "Norma" 308 Norma Magnum factory ammo.
It is the 180 grain ORYX load. I have not had a chance to hunt with it, and I may not
hunt with it, but at 100 yards, 2 consecutive groups were both under moa, so accuracy
is definitely there.
