Finally got the Churchill No1 Mk3 out for a test run
Had to set rear sight at 600 to get on paper using 150gr S&B. Only had 5 rounds to try out, first 2 were in the dirt, next 3 were in the pie plate at 100 yards. Need to find a scope mount that fits the 3 holes already drilled and toss a scope on it. My eyes can barely see the 10 inch plate, let alone the 2 inch bullseye at 100 yards there's days 🙄 Does anyone know if these were drilled for a specific mount, or is it just a try to find something that fits and make it work

Probably take BA27 Parker Hale base and RALS3 or RAHS3 Parker Hale rings, first rings being low, and second higher for larger objective. They come up on ee and ebay. Base and rings will be north of $100 but good setup imo.

I would go that it is drilled and tapped for a Weaver TO-1 base - at the time, they came with a shim - I think the shim was used on a No. 1 SMLE and the shim was not used on a No. 4 or No. 5 rifle. Might be the other way around. My recollection is that the rear hole was offset to the front holes, but it has been a while since I handled one - I might be in error on that. The Weaver TO-1 base accepts about any rimfire size 3/8" ring clamp - it was not intended for full size clamps. The front ring needs to be fully forward against the TO-1 "recoil stop" to prevent the rings from sliding under recoil.

The TO1 base on a no.1 mk3 is used a bit but a flimsy set up at best. Still think Churchill sporters were probably factory tapped for Parker Hale base. If anyone has a BA27 base laying arounda quick measurement would settle the question, I think.

See picture below - I believe the BA27 was a side mount for the No. 1 and the BA 24 was mounted on top. With my very elderly vernier calliper and old eyes, I got about 0.45" centre to centre of the front holes on that BA 24 base (actually from edge to edge of the holes). A Weaver TO-1 should have circa 3/8" hole centers - 0.375"

Two BA 27 shown with the rail that was used on them - one is "newish" / unused and other was previously used / installed. Below in picture are two BA 24 rails - can see there is a "recoil lug" that must bear against the front receiver ring. You can see that the BA 24 actually had two screws at the rear end on the cross bridge - I am pretty sure that Weaver TO-1 only had one rear screw.
