Hello there. New to the Edmonton area, and I'm looking for a place to shoot some targets, try and get a new rifle set up. I've heard about the Genesee Range, but i was hoping for some crown land an hour or two out. Unfortunately I don't know how to find that, anyone have any ideas? Either a recommended area, or info on how to find proper crown land? Thank you

am also in the edmonton area. do yourself a favour and get a pass at the sherwood park fish and game range, which is near tofield. not really any crown land near edmonton to shoot at and if you run afoul of the law and charged by f/g or rcmp when shooting, you'll wish you had purchased a range membership instead. send me a pm and if you want to pay the day range fee for a guest pass ($25), i'll take you shooting to the sherwood park range for the day so you can check it out yourself. .

I am a new member at SPFGA. I agree with gregc's suggestion here... a shooting range is the better way to go, especially if you're new to the area and have not yet made friends who possess farm land.

Plus: shooting ranges have toilets, so you don't have to poo in the woods.

Find someone to guest host you at the Canadian Historical Arms Society (CHAS) Range at Genessee, approximately 45 minutes West of Edmonton off of Hwy 770. The CHAS facility has multiple Ranges with overhead and 3-sides cover.

Range #1 has steel targets every 100m out to 800m. #2 is a 100m Range. #3 is 50m and there is a dedicated 7m-25m Pistol Range as well. Off to the Left side of the facility is a Shotgun Clays Range, an Archery Range and a new (still under development) F-Class Range out to 1000m.

Annual dues are $225 and you get a lot more than any other nearby Range for your money with CHAS. SPFG Range is only 300m maximum with a single gong for instance.

Weekdays are awesome and I am often the only shooter on the long range. Weekends can get congested especially in the run-up to Hunting Season, but I have very rarely had to wait for a spot to shoot. Watch the Calendar closely for League Events that take up use of Range 1 on weekends so as to avoid disappointment upon arrival!

I am available most Wednesdays or Thursdays to guest host new shooters (you bring the $20 drop-in fee). Just PM me if you are interested7

Taking up this man's offer is likely the most valuable thing you could do, in several different aspects. And it is a generous offer, trust me. Consider it for sure if you are truly interested in actually shooting and perhaps learning........likely learning a lot. And you would have the privilege of meeting an honorable man.

Given the OP posted this on Mar 30 like 2 months ago and has a total of 1 post and hasn't been seen here since I highly doubt he is interested in actually shooting anywhwere but rather just wanted to make a post, happens all the time, post a question and disappear

That's OK - somebody else in need might see the answer to the question they were afraid to ask.....
