Brigade Makasi MK15 First impression box opening

For some reason manufacturers decide to cut corners in their design in the most stupid way possible.. one has to wonder if those savings on helicoils and proper retaining clip are actually worth it for them. Garage industry will have to step up and make a new handguard I guess.

The aluminum threadings for the two cross bolts in the handguard are passable without heli coil under normal circumstances. the main problem here is that the barrel nut cross bolt channels are not aligned- the factory assembler probably ran the power tool so he or she didn’t feel the “abnormal” resistance when the bolts were forced through the barrel nut material and into handguard- that is why there are metal powder and lots of “white” in the hole.

I also noticed that the gas plug was in “suppressed” setting out of the factory…..I believe they test fired these things so I am not sure what’s going on. I guess I will find out when I take it out for the test drive .
 
I also think the hairpin clip they provided for the gas plug is not of the right size - if they use the right size it would stay on, and it wouldn’t have fallen off. The better way of doing this is a R Clip, but that involves drilling though the gas plug and the space within the rail maybe too limited . I don’t think retaining ring is a good choice here if it is intended for user maintenance, they may as well thread it and have a cap screwed on

As for the Handguard Screws, those are a bigger concern. The AI instructions provided above seem prudent WRT hand-tightening, alternatkng tensioon, reduced torque values, and so forth. Still, a factory solution using Steel Heli-Coil Inserts is the correct answer here....

It all just indicates poor design and tolerance for crap to me :(
 
After reading this thread, I pulled the plug on the Makasi, I just got off the phone with the retailer I ordered from and switched my order over to the Carmel

I have zero time or patience for the crap that I am seeing in this thread

Ive played this game with WK180s

I was every excited for the Makasi but when I see stuff like this on the first one to be disected in Canada I just cannot commit anymore

I wish it turned out a different, there is no way any $2500 rifle should have these sort of issues

Maybe its a one off, I dont know, this is definitely not for me anymore

I am not surprised at all. A cope gun made by a small company with a few CNC machines, that turned all the red lights on.

Ditto.
Dropping 3k all in for something with this many problems with the shorter barrel none the less.. doesn’t leave me confident for the NRs.

Sigh.

What makes the handguard unique on this thing? The internet seems a little obtuse as to the reasoning. There has to be a way to swap an aftermarket on it...

Sadly what Greentips has shared just confirms my statement in the other thread that upset several people.

IWI is well proven where as Makasi....... go look up brigade manufacturing reviews on google you will see they are pretty much like NEA/BCL but located in Florida. Terrible reviews and then a bunch of cooked 5 star reviews to try and hide the truth.

Based on that alone I'll put my money on the IWI when they show up in stores.

Your review gave me a clear option between two guns. just got off the call with my local gun store and switched the preorder to IWI Carmel

I like the look of Carmel better and don't want to switch the stock, trigger on Makasi. the only thing I don't like about is the pencil barrel on Carmel.

They said the Carmel will arrive in 12-15 days, before Makasi could reach Canada
