The aluminum threadings for the two cross bolts in the handguard are passable without heli coil under normal circumstances. the main problem here is that the barrel nut cross bolt channels are not aligned- the factory assembler probably ran the power tool so he or she didn’t feel the “abnormal” resistance when the bolts were forced through the barrel nut material and into handguard- that is why there are metal powder and lots of “white” in the hole. For some reason manufacturers decide to cut corners in their design in the most stupid way possible.. one has to wonder if those savings on helicoils and proper retaining clip are actually worth it for them. Garage industry will have to step up and make a new handguard I gue
I am not sure that the situation with the Gas Plug Retaining Clip is all that dire. As has been pointed out, the Piston's spring tension will hold the Plug in position. The Clip is therefore little more than "Insurance" , so to speak.
As for the Handguard Screws, those are a bigger concern. The AI instructions provided above seem prudent WRT hand-tightening, alternatkng tensioon, reduced torque values, and so forth. Still, a factory solution using Steel Heli-Coil Inserts is the correct answer here....
Improvements are the manufacturing improvements going forward depending from which end they are starting from.
Barrel length.Just curious what makes this restricted?
I am not surprised at all. A cope gun made by a small company with a few CNC machines, that turned all the red lights on.After reading this thread, I pulled the plug on the Makasi, I just got off the phone with the retailer I ordered from and switched my order over to the Carmel
I have zero time or patience for the crap that I am seeing in this thread
Ive played this game with WK180s
I was every excited for the Makasi but when I see stuff like this on the first one to be disected in Canada I just cannot commit anymore
Thanks Greentips for the honest no BS details you have given us
I wish it turned out a different, there is no way any $2500 rifle should have these sort of issues
Maybe its a one off, I dont know, this is definitely not for me anymore

Part 2 of brigade Makasi take down
The handguard and barrel nut design is a direct copy of HK 416 and therefore Giessele - but the handguard is not exactly lined up with the barrel nut channels, and the bolts got forced into the barrel nut channels at a slight angle - so a bit of tolerance issue here View attachment 1153112

LOL Bartok tends to not like anything unless he gets his hands on it first from his friends so he can stroke his ego off doing a silly review where he slaps the same scope/laser/light/ect from another gun onto the next for his photo op.
IWI is well proven where as Makasi....... go look up brigade manufacturing reviews on google you will see they are pretty much like NEA/BCL but located in Florida. Terrible reviews and then a bunch of cooked 5 star reviews to try and hide the truth.
Based on that alone I'll put my money on the IWI when they show up in stores.
I believe it's cause the gas system/piston rides higher than the gas tube on an AR.What makes the handguard unique on this thing? The internet seems a little obtuse as to the reasoning. There has to be a way to swap an aftermarket on it...
