I see that the Grizzly help thread has been locked by our "moderators"

The guy asked a question..and he got jumped on..yes his first route was highly questionable but not his desire to shoot a grizzly..he ASKED some questions..we HAD an opportunity to help and to EDUCATE..we did neither.

I have helped hundreds of hunters without any compensation of any sort,,, HELL I have even HELPED MODERATORS here with no ask of anything thats just ME..and I have NEVER been sorry for HELPING...

BEFORE closing the thread..try and be helpful.. andpoint the guy in a direction to help him..If he persists in trying to achieve his goals in illegal or unethical ways come down hard..MAYBE HE JUST DIDNT KNOW.???

If he is NOT from BC he is required to have a legal and licensed guide.PERIOD.

If he is from BC there are always guys wanting to go along on a grizzly hunt with NO COMPENSATION REQUIRED OR ASKED.

My rant..sorry...meds are now starting to kick in...

I agree, asking a question shouldn't get someone in trouble... But... When you boil it down, ignorance is not a defense. How many times have we all heard that before when it comes to "the law"...

Anyhow, the thread should have developed into an informative one, with people discussing the issue and educating each other... In the past, I've tried to educate and be helpful, and I will continue to do so as I believe it furthers our sport.

Cheers
Jay

I'm with Foxer. Nothing stopping the original poster from re-posting the question in a proper manner.

The post was perhaps a little "fishy", maybe not too---good call Foxer.

Where is the brown noser smilie anyway?

riden with the response he got..would you ?...I hope your right..and he does repost the "right" way...whatever that is..lol

As far as I can see, this guy did not intend to do anything illegal, and had no idea how to go about getting into this kind of hunt. That is why he asked. Any "illegal" activity he mentioned was an assumption that it was legal on his part.

Why close a thread when everyone is being helpful, pointing him in the right direction, and he isn't there shouting about wanting to do it illegally?

I have a question "IF not US...then WHO should he have asked"?
We SHOULD have been the RIGHT folks to ask...a LOT of experienced outdoors ladies and men here ...

However I also believe MODERATORS have a tough thankless job and they need to react to the thin end of the wedge..no hard feelings...

I think it was heavy handed. I am in no way a newbie when it comes to hunting, but I would have posted the EXACT same thing if I wanted to hunt Grizz! I had no idea that the law stated that whatsoever, and it seemed like a very reasonable question. The big downside is that as soon as that thread dissapears off the page, there are 100's (if not 1000's) of out of province guys like me that are never going to know that it's illegal to hunt without a guide. The thread would be far more usefull as a source of infomation and discussion than it is as a locked thread.

Add to that that before locking nobody even checked where the guy was from! Holy "presumed guilty" batman!

If I didn't know how to hunt B Bear here in ON, and said "Hey guys, anyone know where/how I can hunt blackies without it costing a fortune?" Wwould I get jumped on? I can't afford 20 K either.

my thought as well ROA, if your offering compensation then your seeking a guide, is it realy that hard that a stranger offers you money to take them hunting its not guiding??? now if the guy had just asked for help and NOT offered money that would have been a differend question all together, but as a GUIDE as well I know there is a pile of illegal guiding in this province and know how hard it is to catch a grizz leh so yea Ill jump all over something that could steal from me, my family and my friends!

and guided grizz hunts arent $20K more like 7-12 in the interior

get a few posts and get to know people srupp before you critisize a mod thats done more for the firearms owners and hunters than any 1 of us this board ;)

Well maybe something to do with some Gunnutz past history as far as illegal grizz hunting.... might be a touchy issue

Perhaps that's true, but the poster doesn't advertise where he lives, and if he lives outside of BC or the Yukon which is what makes it illegal, how is he supposed to learn the rules without asking. While I sympathise with the problems the moderators face, telling the guy that the services he was requesting were illegal should of been enough, and I believe the thread would of proceeded in another direction.

Bonecollector..DO NOT TELL ME WHAT TO DO..YOU DONT know me either or any possible contributions I may or may NOT have made..what a moderator is "off limits for making a comment about sheeeesh...c'mon...

Your vested interest as a guide for compensation renders your opinion moot...

No I dont know Foxer..but as my Dad taught me "without fear or without favor " I disagreed with the approach by the Mod..and I still do..thats MY opinion...and oh ya..I too was a guide..

Sorry for the limited amount of posts..I do frequent more than this site...and do work..oh ya have a familly and other recreational interests..

Quite a few of us know srupp. I know him personally, and I'd stack his resume of contributions to helping hunters and hunting up there with anyones.:)

X2!!

I have been dealing with hunters and shooters for close to 40 years and I have never met ANYONE who goes so far out of his way to help fellow hunters.

Also, I have also never anyone with as much actual EXPERIENCE hunting bear, both black and grizzly, than Steven.

On top of that if I ever need a paramedic in a hurry he would be my first choice even if Royal Inland seems to think he is an orderly ................. ;)

It would seem to me that the poster did not know if it was legal or not, but had no chance to reply either way.

If we locked every thread that started with a newbie asking questions, it would be a poor forum.

thats great Clarke but dont knock foxer for upholding the rules of the board!

I don't see where the rules were broken. A simple note mentioning that hiring an unlicensed guide was not legal would have sufficed.
It is ENTIRELY possible the original subject of this controversy DIDN'T KNOW what he was proposing was illegal.

that is true Boo but the mods dont need to be bashed for there jobs by anyone and especialy a guy who has donated as many hows fighting gun reistry and political BS for everyone here and as wel as your friend at no cost or ask from anyone, and when the guy offered compensation for a hunt without having to hire a guide its ILLEGAL in bc simple and maybe wording Vs legality did cross in a wrong path but did anyone bother to PM the mod and ask what was up Im sure knowing foxer he Pmed the fellow explained why he did what he did and offered a solution to his questionable question but NOOO we get buddy jumping down his back over it
