So, i suppose the time has come for me to pick up a new rifle. Not set on what i want at the moment, but i was kinda leaning towards maybe a k31, or maybe a ross rifle that i could modify to left hand.

K31’s are beautiful rifles, but ammo is hard to source. While .303 isn’t exactly plentiful, it’s out there, so I think I would lean towards finding a Ross…

The 7.5x55 Swiss is plentiful right now with the few stores located in the Greater Toronto Area at the moment and for very good prices, I'd heavily recommend a K31 if you can find the LH conversion kits.

Anyone have any ideas on a non invasive recoil pad?
I use a slip on pad for bench shooting, so I don't have to make any permanent modifications to a classic milsurp. Otherwise, you can get a plastic adapter that fills in the curve of the butt plate and lets you mount any conventional recoil pad to the flat surface of the adapter.

Ok!

Who would make the adapter?

I was in my reloading room and dug out the recoil pad adapter. It is made by Swiss Products, like many of the other K31 accessories. You can see the contoured side that goes against the stock and the flat surface where you mount the recoil pad.

As someone who don't reload, even if I considered the K31, I went on the swedish mauser road instead. The m96 and m38 are awesome rifles and often seen in Canada for less than swiss rifles. Also, a variety of the factory ammo from light target loads to heavy bond hunting are available, not cheap, but maybe a tad less than the swiss counterpart. Of course, it always depend of what you want to do with your new rifle.
