Winchester 28 Gauge 3 inch Lead Ammunition

More and more all the time.CZ ,Browning,Beretta and Benelli come to mind .

Just thinking Mossberg and Franchi as well

Just bought a Fair 28 gauge Iside sxs 3" thier O//U guns are also 3". I may be wrong but not sure if Browning has taken the leap yet ? Rizzini also chambers the 28 in 3". My four other 28 gauge are 2 3/4" and that still works for me the 7/8 oz load is the bomb in the 2 3/4 " guns.

Some were waterfowl loads, some Challenger, some Federal I think, and others I don’t remember.

I may buy it all over time. I’d be foolish not to.

My shotgun is a Tri-star Viper in a semi-automatic. I use it for upland birds, target shooting, and some clay pigeons.

Even have shot marmots and gophers in the Okanagan when we lived there. Knocks them like the “Hammer of Thor”!…

Yes Browning has their Citori 725 28 gauge listed for 3 inch shells.

Be sure to let us know your thoughts on the new 28 gauge Fair,when you get a chance to shoot it.

I have been giving the water rat's a going over on the Bass pond with the Fair and handloaded 3" 1 1/8 oz # 4 full chokes and some time on the P board. The gun is a nice piece got it in a combo 36 & 28 gauge set. Fits me like a glove and with the long cone thin wall chokes patterns 3inch 1 1/8" handloads 1200 almost fps with #4 lead shot like a larger gauge a first for me with a 28 gauge. iron cat put me onto the fair he and his cronnies have been thumping game for years with thier hammer Fairs.

My shotgun is identical to the one you describe, Viper G2, however mine is a 2 3/4" chamber.

I won't ever need a 3" 28 gauge for anything. Lots of other gauges available for that.

Some guys shoot 3" 12 gauge shells through their 2 3/4" guns with no issue, however I'm not sure how safe this practice is?

Just wondering what the other four kinds are?It must be hard on you, seeing something you started being destroyed.

When I first retired from my shop, it was almost heartbreaking to see what the new owner was doing..... He fired 48 regular full time employees, all who made over $45,000.00 per year. Some of them were no good to begin with, however the majority were great employees.

The majority of my staff quit shortly after I left. One guy is still there in the Pro Shop. The remaining CT staff were employed in other departments. If the new guy can take a store that used to gross 34 million dollars per year, and have it drop to 17 million per year, you know he's an absolute fool......

I used to do 10% of the total daily gross store sales, with 1% of the staff. My Pro Shop used to produce 2.9 million dollars in gross sales, with 3.2 million being my best year. I made my store owner a very rich man. Well he was already rich, however I made him even richer........

Now the store is filled with pimple-faced teenagers who don't know a rake from a snow blower. It's a crying shame what CT Corporate will allow to happen in these independently owned stores.....

It took me close to a year to get over the tragedy of store ownership change..... Now I could care less. I still shop in their occasionally, all while looking for clearance sales of my old inventory.

I lived my dream of starting and running a gun shop for close to four years. I had over 800 guns in stock, over one million dollars of in stock ammunition, ordered three-four million dollars in inventory annually, and had five people working for me. We were the largest gun shop in Southern BC. We sold over 1200 firearms per year, and we were loved by our customers. I still get phone calls from customers wondering what the heck happened. All I can tell them is I retired and a different owner bought the entire store.

I have quite a few of the old 28 gauge Bismuth loads.Number 4 I believe.Also a box of Kent Bismuth and quite a few Bismuth hand loads for 1 ounce,7.8 ounce and 5 /8 ounce.

Do not think it is a good idea to shoot 3 inch in a 2 3/4 inch gun.

As far as guns go,one does not need a 28 gauge gun.Just buy a 12 gauge and shoot 3/4 ounce loads out of it.A 12 gauge will do anything the other gauges will do ,with one gun.So if you feel you need another gauge why bother,just get a 12 and be done with.

If you have a 28 gauge gun chambered for a 3 inch shell,it could be handy for longer shots on pheasants or waterfowl.Its also hard to say, how long lead will not be banned altogether.Steel being the cheapest non tox now available,it could be the only way the 28 gauge will stay as a viable gun for field use.Bismuth etc. id getting ever more expensive all the time.

I actually stopped in there on my way back home from a visit to the West Kootenays last weekend. I was hoping for powder, large pistol primers, and some bullets for reloading 223. There was a total of 4 powder choices, none of which worked for me. I was asked by the sole employee there if he could help me find something, I said I needed large pistol primers, he said "ya, they are there with the rest of the primers"... hmm, I didn't see them. He walked over and pointed "there" to the small pistol. I said, no I need large pistol, an he said "oh, so these won't work for all pistols?"
Then I thought maybe I could walk out with something, and where there used to be a literal wall of hornady bullets when you worked there, now there was 2 shelves and 55gr FMJ was definitely not what I was hoping for....

Sigh... hopefully next time I'm back in Cranny I'll have better luck by stopping in at Mountain Man...

I'm sorry for your poor experience.....

That would have never happened if I still ran that gun shop.

Unfortunately, when one pays peanuts, you get monkeys. Some owners just do not care about customer service, or hiring employees with some knowledge in the department they are working in.

It's the new, "Who Cares", Carney Liberal way.......
