It seems many retailers no longer stock or can't get unprimed brass for reloaders

$2 a case. lol. Try 577 Snider and 577-450 over $15 when you can find them. I have made them out of 24 ga brass shotshell which are cheaper. The 41 Swiss can be made out of 348 Winchester but over $4 each.
I shoot a lot of less common calibers that brass isn’t easy to find. When I do find it I cringe at the price but I buy unless I can make it out of a more common case. Last odd ball I bought was 8x50R Austrian. No ammunition being made and no cases being made. Easy to make it out of 7.62x54R.
Inter Surplus brings in many of the older military cases. Not always in stock but they do consistently bring them in. They are good to deal with. Shipping is reasonable also. My last order was 3 Lee Enfield mags they shipped for $20.

yup, ive tried some, and the chamber doesn't like them a bit too tight to extract easily... Occasionally the whole eradication via regulation and taxation is a PITA!
 
The 348 case may need some spun off the base of the case to fit the 41 Swiss. I use a lathe and a fine toothed flat file. A hand drill or drill press could be used. One of my rifles they fit but others the chamber was too small. I have 4 that are center fire if I swap the bolt around.

I told him to do a search on the banner advertisers on this site.

He did and called me back to tell me the choices for unprimed cases of any type were slim at best.

He did end up purchasing some Lapua cases.

I was a bit tongue in cheek, so I had a look as well.

He's right, it seems the businesses either are no longer carrying cases, or can't get them.

Even some the old go to places are no longer carrying them.

Is the profit margin that tight, or are these stores reluctant to order from the US????

I believe that there is not much demand for federal brass, hence the availability. You're friend purchased great brass (Lapua).
 
Since the pandemic, we've gone through droughts and almost insane price increases, which have come back somewhat, but not inline with what they should normally have increased through inflation.

I know several hand loaders who only use their cases once or twice and aren't concerned about the longevity of their cases.

They don't have visions of shooting out past 1K, and don't shoot more than a hundred rounds per year.

They usually purchase one manufacturer's cases, bullets, primers, and powder, which they use with the same load that works for their needs for years, unless they're forced to change because the brand is no longer available.

I'm lucky enough to have enough supplies on hand to fill my needs until I can no longer hunt/shoot/fish, so I haven't really been keeping up with all the new wonder powders or firearms.

What I have was and still is good quality and still does everything it was advertised to do, and in reality, it more than fills the needs and skills of 95% of the people shooting today. Not dissing anyone for their choices.

I see a lot of retailers are moving away from US manufactured components, maybe because of availability, cost, or disdain.

The European offerings are excellent and nowadays are cost competitive, or cheaper than US offerings, or just more available.

Some people hate Federal cases, but like their other components.

Personally, I don't dislike any of their components and have used them without discrimination for decades.

I really did like their Gold Medal Match components a lot, and still do. It was my gotoo brass for my Coyote hunting rifles and HBR shooting.

I just miss the days when I could go into a store, several banner supporters here included, and there would be a good selection of several different name brands on the shelves.

Components have become very pricey for a lot of reasons beyond our's, or the seller's control.

So has the ease of procuring the components.

Some here have never seen what it was like just 6 short years ago, and see this as the norm.

I guess it's the same ole shtick, change is constant, and not always for the better.

I think that the need to be "loyal" to canada has fogged the mindset of many.
