After 2 years of patient waiting for parts, and design considerations, etc.... I finally took possession of my new F-Class rifle.

Nesika, model L action
Lilja 7mm 1:9 twist bbl, 30 inches
Robertson Composite Stock, Ranger Model.
Jewel Trigger
IOR 9-36 x 56mm scope.
Chambered in 7mm WSM (Dave Kiff Reamer)
Chambering, bedding, and lots of other important work by ### rifle works

Unfortunately the snow caused a lot of glare on these pictures.

These groups are with virgin Winchester brass, I only sorted by wt, no load development as yet.

Load:
Berger 180gn VLD
69gn H1000
COL 3.120
MVel ~ 3000fps.

Second Trip to the Range

I finally got time to prepare the brass I fireformed on my first trip to the range. There is not much give in this chamber, so it took some time for me to get the brass right. Chamber measures 1.7740 to the datum line, after firing the brass ranged 1.7720 to 1.7750. The brass measuring 1.7750 was a very tight fit and needed to be body sized, even then the best I could get was 1.7745 from these. After a second firing most sized 1.7735 to 1.7745.

Below I have posted the 8 loads I tried. The flier in group 'A' is the first shot after I cleaned the bbl, so I have not included it. It seems that 69.2gn of H1000 is the best load, with the highest velocity and least spread, having said that several were similar.

Using the 69.2 gn load, I moved out to 200 and 300 yards. The wind caught me at 200, but I am happy with the vertical spread, it is still less than 0.3 MOA.

My first group at 300 also suffered from the wind, but in the second set, I used the sighter (Right side of target), and then made a 2 click adjustment and fired the group.

Up to now I have less than 180 rounds fired, but given my bbl life it is time to stop experimenting and get out to some matches and have some fun!

Very nice looking rig indeed!

I am sure once you get her dialed-in, she will tighten up nicely. 7WSM was the cartridge to beat in Ireland in 2007

I am looking forward to tightening the loads, my 6.5-270 WSM shot similar groups last year, and then after load development I go it down by a 50%.
Half the fun is in the journey, but I am looking forward to the destination as well :)

What a sweet rifle, congrats on her, she's a keeper :D

nice shooting

every time I see rifles like yours I loose control of my finances and feel that I need to break into my savings and buy buy buy :runaway:

What a wonderful looking setup! Some things are just worth waiting for. Wouldn't mind finding that stock in sock at Christmas.

What barrel length did you go with? I think I might have to sell my Stiller action and get a Nesika.

The bbl is 30 inches

Jerry, The wt is just under 18lbs I was looking at a ski bipod but I will need to confirm the wt so that I can stay under 10kg for the entire setup.

Cyan1de, Yes it is comfortable, a big change over my previous check rest with multiple layers of foam.

Nice shooting and load testing. Love how the groups are clocking as you increase the powder charge.

I would suggest you try 69.0 and 69.2gr at 300yds. You might find the lower load has less vertical.

Also, consider doing a 15rd final test group to ensure that the load/barrel doesn't go vertical as things heat up.

Enjoy the matches....

Jerry, these are good points, thanks.

I will use the 69.2gn load, and fire a 15 round string at 300 yards to see how much heating up the bbl and chamber will affect the vertical.

My 6.5-270WSM picked up about an inch of vertical when I was using IMR 7828SSC, I switched to H1000, and did not feed the cartridge into the chamber until just before firing (I had the habbit of pushing the bolt forward, but not closing it as I waited for my next shot, as a result the cartridge sat in the hot chamber). With those 2 changes the problem of increasing vertical during long strings went away.

Also, if planning to shooting in matches, please check to ensure that the ballistic template of your magnum fits into the match rules.

DCRA has some limits on magnums if I understand the ballistics table correctly. Maybe it is a range template?????

Anyways, have a check.

Jerry
