Yup. Watch you tube for game dressing vids. You either take someone with you to help you, or dive in and do it. Thats what I did, was by myself. It went well.
Good advice. Lots of good used rifles. Since you aren't a reloader (yet) I wouldn't discount a rifle in 270 or 7mm-08 either. Very common, less recoil and flat shooting. Also good for everything.

.30/06 is a great choice as is .308, as the others have said. Plentiful reasonable $$ ammo esp if you hunt around ( gun shows, pawn shops). Have a look at the cool selection of rifles Intersurplus has if you're on a budget or just like cool older stuff....note barrel length... lots of 24s in the mix that you don't need. Tons of great scopes here on the equipment exchange too.
Great choices....I haven't shot the Tikka but hear great reviews. The other two are both excellent workhorses that will last forever.

T-Bolt is a timeless classic that allows you to stay on target with it's straight pull action. So slick and precise. 17hmr will have you poking eyes out... on the ground game. Cheers 10/22 on the bottom lol

I'm fortunate in that our hunting property has maybe 2 areas where you can get a 120-150 yd. clean shot so I sight in at 100 yds. When I used to hunt a property where I had the chance of up to 300-350 yds. I would zero my .308 at 200 yds allowing for a 10" to 14" drop at 300. Given that the kill zone on a whitetail is around 8" learning to judge distance and allowing for drop is an acquired skill. Zero your rifle and load and work up drop tables for your particular load or loads.
