Rate 308 Precision Reloading Setup

Wanted to get into reloading 308 for my precision shooting. Guy said this was the best money could buy and gave me a great deal at only $200 for the entire setup!



I'm kidding of course. I do have one of these sitting in a box somewhere that I bought many many years ago.

My great grandfather carried one of these in his saddle bags everywhere. When he was guiding sitting around camp at the end of the day he would reload.

Back then that was maybe all he could afford and minute of bear was good enough, he probably did not produce precision ammo with it ; )

it will load ammo as good as any standard rcbs die just painfully slow
full length resizing is the same no matter how it's done

I never really liked those kits but I could 100% see how they might be useful in some situations. They only really neck size so at one point you need to FL size anyway.

I used to prep and prime a bunch of brass then take a LEE handpress with components to the range so I could work up loads and just seat bullets with them. Eventually that morphed into a Rockchucker mounted on a chunk of 2x8 that I could clamp down to the counter.

Now I'm at the range about 200 days a year so if I want to work something up I just do it at home as I know I'll be back the next day.

As has been stated, that Lee die will work just fine until the shoulder creeps forward then FL resizing will be needed.
I have used them before and they work super.

No he didn’t ! You have to use a hammer with one hand and hold sh#t with the other - not possible to do while driving !
I got mine when I was 9 years old - loaded shells for my 30-30 and shot my first 2 pt mule deer with my Handloads when I was 10 . I’m 70 now !

Add a good quality powder scale, calipers, a bullet comparator, and use those handloads in the same rifle the case was fired from and your results should be pretty good but won't win you any BR compititions.

Those Lee Classic are good starter kits and a nice portable reloading setup when your out in the field plinking. Kept my pigs fed when I was up at my off grid cabin plinking away.
