SCSA Taipan. Thoughts?

I bought one 6-weeks ago and have only been able to get out 2x for only 50 rounds. First time I mounted a Holosun RD and got ca 2" group at 100-yds using 62g Greentips. Second time with a scope I got 1-MOA again with GTs. Both times shooting off a front bag Only. I feel an 'actual F-rest/bag setup' will improve accuracy, as well as just more trigger time and 'better ammo'. I fired ca 30 rounds of PPU FMJ as well as the GTs. I had a Renegade and didn't get that accuracy with it after 200+ rounds, so it 'went away'. I find the pump easy to use, even w/o a 'battery lock' like SGs have. And the side pull is OK for bench shooting or prone. Now that 223 is about the same cost as x39 for my Ranch, I hope to get the accuracy up with the Taipan-X, tho it may not compare to the bolt guns I have. Still a satisfying rifle.
 
^ ^ Like the Renegade and the PND and the Troy PAR ? All in the $same + range ? And $2### + for the 'new' semis ?

Are there even any $800 new 5.56 rifles being sold in Canada these days? Even the Ruger American rifles are $1200 for Gen 2 and $800 for Gen 1 and they are simple bolt action designs with a plastic stock and manufactured by a large well established American company.
 
Even those Turkish semi 223 rifles are 1400 bucks, it’s ridiculous
Those should be a 500 dollar gun and the Taipan should be a 700 dollar gun, same with the MRA guns
Anything that is “tactical” and still legal we are taking it up the backside…

Just because that's the way they're priced, doesn't mean they're actually worth it. You can price a Toyota Yaris at $100k.... and people will buy it, if there's nothing else available. Doesn't make it worth the money.

Buck1950 - the "new semis" aren't actually priced that badly. Before the bans, X95s were going for around $2500, Bren2s for close to $3K....

You could say that about plenty of things these days. in 2018 we could buy S&W Ar15's for $600. In 1992 we were buying brand new Chinese SKS rifles for $75 each. etc etc. But people are still buying SKS and would be buying AR15's now even if the new price for the S&W would be at least $1500 if we could still get them.

"Worth the money " is subjective to the individual when it all comes down to it.
 
Mine had trouble feeding, though perhaps it was the Fox operator foregrip causing stroking issues. Not sure. It was't as robust as I hoped. Got rid of it. Perhaps I'll try the Troy next.

I thought the Taipan was way better operating than the Troy PAR. But my Taipans work fine, it was always the operators that made the short strokes and I stuck with the standard fore end. I dont' think they are perfect though, I did make a few posts about my thoughts on the thread that is linked above.
 
I’ve got two Tiapans and three PAR’s.

The Tiapans are smoother pumping.

I like that the Troy rifles lock closed on a loaded chamber, like most pump shotguns, but the Tiapan is easy to train on - I just pump the gun, then move my support hand to just in front of the mag well. Exactly how I shoulder my C8.
 
Can't be comparing 5+ year old prices to current BS pricing - $2500 5 years ago is about $3500 + 'now money'. Just like the $400 SKS 'back then' to the $1K NOW.
 
I have one and use it for 3-gun in Michigan. Accurate enough out to 200 yards with my handloads. I put a 1-6X LPVO on it and use 10-round Cross mags. No issues at all. I use it in pump mode to keep my hands on the firearm while I'm running-and-gunning.

I have also used my Troy PAR and MRA Renegade for USA 3-gun matches. They all do the job, but currently the Taipan is my go-to rifle.

Thinking to ditch {sell} my MVP Patrol/Scout 5.56, & get into one of these. I like it has a 16.5" barrel, takes STANAG, 2 Big reasons why I bought the 16.5" MVP brand new..guess was a 'cope' rifle{AR's just got hit} lol...this I can Cope' a lil' better I think...~
 
Don’t sell your patrol just yet
They could do more gun banning and these pump/slide actions could be in the crosshairs
I have the 308 patrol and was going to sell it a couple years back but decided to keep it tucked away and bought a taipan and mra anyway
 
^ Could be, would be, should be! Why post shiit like this ffs. Ya, & Russia could nuke North America too right?!? "COULD BE" - Any more Pre-Cog wisdom to share?
