I've been wanting to get an entry level bolt action to use in OPRS, and came down to three; CZ 457 Range, T1X, and Bergara.
Do I really need a match chamber for the 100m?
Bergara coming with 2 mags is a bonus, and a factory rail.
Trying to find extra mags for CZ is little more then frustrating.
Its nice to change up the stock with addons without getting out of the production class.
What if I really get the bug and want to venture off into CRPS and NRL22??:eek::eek::eek:
What if I decide meh, can I make back $ on the resale??:eek::eek::eek:
Would a Tesro build be considered an open class or still a factory?

If you really think you may 'meh', perhaps look for a used rifle. Any of those 3 should have quite a long lifespan. My 457 VMTR came with ca 1000 rounds (or less) and still mostly shoots sub-moa with SK-RM, now coming towards 3K shots. There are several CZ models that come with the Match chamber. . . and mags are 'out there'. All 3 are comparative, so if you can 'try/hold' each to see which feels best to you ?

i think that’s the problem, i’ve got to handle Tikka and CZ, i’ve not been able to find a Bergara, they are sold out everywhere (within driving distance)
I like the feel of CZ and Tikka, though the way CZ mag sticks out is a bit of a turnoff
i thank you; i wil go with a used one, i guess you can always upgrade to a new gun
 
I think a used CZ, regardless of which 457 model you choose, would be a great option. If you ever decide to get cereal about competition, you can easily upgrade it with an IBI match barrel.

From what I understand, the distinction between Production and Open Class is based on the combined MSRP of the rifle and optic—not what you actually paid for them. The cost of your rings or scope mount doesn't count toward the limit.

Another important requirement is that both the rifle and optic must still be in current production. If either one is discontinued, you're automatically moved into Open Class. Likewise, if the manufacturer raises the MSRP the following year and the combined value of your rifle and optic exceeds the Production Class limit, you'll also be bumped into Open Class, even if you bought everything while it was still within the limit.
 
^ ^ RE 'Class', Not unless there is an "Upate" after this, which I found on CRPS site. I presume "date of purchase" would interpret as most recent 'MSRP' when 'last sold'. JMO, I don't shoot ORPS.

I've shot them all. I own 2 T1X's and 1 CZ MTR .
All pretty similar off them bench for 100Y accuracy with decent ammo.

Based on your stated options, I'd suggest the CZ. If you have challenges with finding additional OEM mags, you can just get an L3i or NDR 13 round aftermarket.

Although you "can" upgrade any of those rifles, you won't need to for a few seasons.
PRS (especially at sub 200 yards) is 70% stability, 20% ammo choice and 10% your actual gun. (assuming it's not an absolute bargain basement crap model)

Oh, and as for Base/Production vs Open. Yes each league has different rules based on the US MSRP $ - but, having done this for 5 years now, my advice is to shoot what you enjoy shooting for gear and don't get hung up in the different classifications - until you get into the top 20% of the league, then it starts to count , but until then - have fun, make friends and refine your skills before getting sucked into the gear chase game.
 
I have 2 Tikka T1x. Exceptionally CONSISTENTLY accurate and high value for the $.

I don't understand the CZ cult. Every one i have handled has been meh, but there are a lot of them out there and the aftermarket is solid.

Match chambers are always good. CZ and Tika will already have match chambers as they are built to CIP mandatory specs; these match up with SAAMI match chamber specs. I would hope that Bergara, for what they charge, would also. Bergara actions tend to be a bit gritty feeling; Tika the smoothest of the three. Based on experience, the Tika may have a slight edge when it comes to accuracy out of the box, although CZs tend to be quite good also. CZ 10 round mags in polymer are hard to find. I searched for over a year, and finally one dealer got stock in; I ordered and got what I wanted, but they sold out very quickly. Fit and finish wise, all three are nice. Triggers on all three are OK. I can not speak to open vs factory from Tesro, I would think open.

If I was building again, putting an action in a chassis, I would take the same road that I did. Start with a relatively inexpensive 455. Side by side with a 457, I think the fit and finish are better on the 455s. They take the same barrels and mags, triggers can be tuned easily and economically, action is very slick (I added a Glades Armories bolt handle) (BTW, Glades handles do require hand fitting).

you need to look at the rules for production class in whatever league you want to shoot in and stay within those rules. CRPS has joined the PRS, so now you have to go by the PRS rules for production, which were different from the original CPRS rules. i believe ORPS still uses the old CRPS rules, which means if you shoot any PRS sanctioned matches you wont be production eligible.


if you want to have something that you can upgrade, you want the CZ. infact, the CZ could be the last rifle you really need to own.

what about the match with 16 people ;) ? What about the matches and everything else I do in my life without sharing with you? Imagine being such a sensitive nonce that a tongue in cheek comment triggers you like this! Have the day you deserve :)
