Did somebody say, "BB Machine gun?!"
Back when I was a teenager, I ordered from LARC International one of their M19-A Annihilator BB machine guns for the princely sum of $49.95 USD. Was I ever excited! Bear in mind this was
long before Y2K, let alone the full-auto airguns and airsoft of today. Back then, a pellet rifle you had to pump six or more times
per shot was exciting.
The unboxing was underwhelming: no sights, a body made from the same sort of plastic as the modern red jerrycan sitting beside your gas mower (with the benefit of being almost as impervious to damage when bumped or dropped), no trigger guard, and practically no metal aside from springs, the tubular stock, and the smoothbore barrel.
Then I hooked up a freon can, poured in an entire container of BBs, and let 'er rip.
HOLY SMOKES!
The reason there were no sights is because you aimed the copper-coloured stream of BB's like a garden hose. If it jammed, which wasn't very often, a quick shake of the gun and you were back in business. Suffice to say it lived up to its cyclic rate claim of 3,000 BB's per minute.
I then bought an "air pig" - one of those red portable compressed air tanks Cambodian Tire used to sell. With some E-Z mods to the freon can coupler, I soon had all the propellant gas I wanted and no risk of freezing the gun with long bursts. As I recall, 60 PSI yielded a muzzle velocity just over 450 fps - more than enough to decimate the rows of empty cans, bottles, and whatever else I could scrounge up as a target.
Although that gun and I parted ways decades ago, I had more than my $49.95 USD worth of fun with it
