Silley Question ??

I inherited a Winchester 150 ( an inexpensive 250 ) . It's a lever action ,side eject and tube fed 22. I've never owned a tube rifle ever. Which way do you load the tube ? I told you it was a silley question.

The model 250 was one of the rifles and shotguns that saved Winchester from bankruptcy in '64

The other two rifles were a factory sporter 303 , everyone had one of those once upon a time ,and a Parker-Hale 30-06. The rifles will have get to be used at the range in his honor.
 
Thanks for the reply, and with a touch of humor too, chuckle. . It does have the cut out. Do you slide the follower back and forth for each shell ? There wasn't a owners manual on line for the 250 series. That was my first check, then the reviews. A short run, '64 to '73 or so. the 9422 was the replacement.

No need to.

1) Hold the rifle muzzle up (easier to put it on a chair or bench for support), pull the inner tube out and load cartridges until the tube is full up to the loading cutout. The cartridges will fall to the breech end on their own under gravity.

2) Insert inner tube back in, push it home and lock it.

3) Proceed to run the mag out plinking and having fun.

The function the same as most rimfire tube mags. Twist and pull out the plug till it exposes the cut out. Then load till full, then push in the tube and twist to lock.
 
Until recently when I also inherited Nylon 66 from another hunting partner, my 22s were a 1022, a commercial version Russian trainer, a CZ ( all detachable mags) and a Cooey 39 for the grand kids. Of note the trainer and the Cooey had more accurate barrels then early model Deluxe 1022. I'll keep the Cooey for the great grand kids.

Before I started reloading, a 22 was a practice rifle.
 
I did watch a couple vids shooting a 250s . I didn't see them loading. They remarked the rifles were accurate with better quality ammo. They also mentioned they need clean burning ammo or a dental pick. The iron sight needed a step ramp so I bought a Bushnell scope.

My eldest son was given a Winchester Cooey 64 . That one was certainly Remington or better.

Amazon has 'Speed-Loading tubes' for about $35, holds 8x tubes of 'however many rounds you choose'. I made my own years ago - vinyl 'fridge water tube & cut 308 cases w- ear-plug 'caps'. Fill em the nite b4 . . . only take a couple minutes per loader if you shoot more than 120 (in my Marlin 60).
