Shorten PAL Approval Times

Just adding on my experience so far for BC. I submitted my application at the start of November 2025 and to date, 7 months later, there is still no update other than its still in processing. My guarantors and spouse both filled out the email info the day they received it, and that's showing as being done in the portal as well. No criminal record, first time PAL/RPAL as my older stuff from back in the day expired long ago.

I have tried calling twice now and been given the processing explanation, and emailed through the CFP portal twice with no updates other than still processing and give it a couple months. I didn't think I was going to get it in time for end of year hunting season last year, but seeing how I am missing the spring season startup its getting aggravating. Some of us are trying to provide for our families in this ever-escalating economy so not being able to hunt, or know when you may be able to hunt, is pretty weak.

The bigger issue for me isn't so much the waiting, its the lack of transparency, clarity, or accountability. There is such a stringent process on the applicants to follow, pay and take your training courses, pay for the application, then the CFO office does whatever they want on their own timeline without being accountable for anything. And the answer being that we just have to sit back and take it unless you can get your MP to take on the issue (and then if the CFO bothers to respond to the MP) is just another example of the GOV not serving its actual taxpayers.

For additional reference, in the time I have been waiting on a response to my PAL/RPAL application, I have received my Reliability Clearance for work in some RCMP projects which that whole process took about 2 months. I realize they are different checks, but essentially very similar, so they have no problem processing you through when its of benefit to them.

Wow, I submitted mine in Feb and got it in April. I did my application online & I called the cfo office to ask for clarification beforehand
 
From the US (Michigan, US born, US citizen) here, application was received May 4th and RPAL issued as of June 15. Now waiting for it in the mail. No references or conjugal called, no calls to myself either. Received the return of my local LE letter in the mail June 12, mailing date of May 19. Very very quick turn around time from what I can tell.
 
Let me get this straight ....... You're dealing with the gov't and you expect good and timely service, right?

They think the tail does wag the dog.

me and the wife did the course June 6th 2026 for pal. walked out and submitted both online June 7th. started the 28 days. wife got hers in the mail jul 10th no update on RCMP or Pal status check. it stayed as submitted the entire time and just showed up in the mail. following Monday her status updated.

as of July 26th my status is still 'Submitted' We have completed the initial review of your firearms License application. If additional information is required, you will be contacted. Please check the status again at a later date.

pretty bummed. this seems to be the norm tho with couples or friends at the same time. one gets it almost instantly after cool down and the other waits months.

I did and passed my non restricted PAL course on March 9th and to this day its just been "in the final stages" on the CFP Portal my status hasn't changed from Application Submitted, called the office 3-5 times now and its as if they dont care with the same calls of zero help
 
Seems a little luck of the draw. My wife and I, in BC, did our course and application in early June, both of us with spotless records. She received hers early July, I just got mine this week.
