So someone at the office today brought me a round of 38 spl he found while remodeling the house ... The guy doesn't own any guns so since I'm the resident gun guy at the office he just gave it to me. Before I throw it in the box of 38 I have laying around the house and shoot it the next time I put my hands on a 38, are there any telltale signs that it may have been reloaded ? No way in hell am I going to put a reload of any kind thru somebody else's gun, that just ain't safe  :runaway:.

If there is any doubt at all don't shoot it!. pull the bullet & dispose of the powder.

The only sign I know of for a reloaded round is a slight bulge at the base ( from incomplete resizing) relative to a known new round. However a reloaded round may not have this bulge as the case may have been reconditioned, or virgin brass may have been used.

As above pull it, dump the powder and put a drop or so of oil in the casing to kill the primer and throw it out.

I take my kenetic bullet hammer, knock out the bullet, dump the old powder, clean up the case, renew the primer+powder, reseat the bullet and Bob's your uncle, one almost free cartridge that I can trust NOT to blow up my firearm.Shooting ammo of unknown heritige is asking for BIG trouble sooner or later.Count on it.

Just put in with your pocket change, nothing more fun than watching the face of the Tim Horton's lady/dude as you fumble for change with a live round amongst it:eek:
