Looking for any recommendation for a screw driver set that will cover most of the Torx, Hex, Philips that are found on firearms both SAE and Metrics.

or is it better to buy the Brownells individual bit set ?

Not sure there is any set that you can buy that fits every screw perfectly. Mostly I deal with slotted screws - likely on older stuff. I have a Wheeler kit - I still have to grind sometimes to get uber snug fit to screw slot - especially with the narrow wide slots on Euro made older guns. I see on U-tube that users will have to "tap in" - I presume they have to fit that snug. And, as per post #2, a good soft jaw vice and torque wrench. My torque wrenches include 1/4" drive Weaver (for mounting scopes - 0 to 50 inch pounds). An intermediate one - 3/8" drive - 5 to 50 foot pounds. Mostly used on front angled action screw on Rugers - and a big one that I use on wheel lug nuts - 1/2" drive - will give reading to 150 foot pounds. Torque values, like most measurements, do not mean much unless the tool is in calibration. Get a really good soft jaw vice and mount it solidly - to hold the work piece when you crank on it.

When reading specs or looking at stuff to buy - understand the difference between "inch pounds" and "foot pounds" - not the same, at all.

I have no experience at buying bits from Brownells - at one time they sold a "set" of six screwdrivers for properly dismantling a Win 94. I know many of those rifles were disassembled, probably at kitchen table, with "one" screw driver.

The wheeler one is definitely the best kit for all the thicknesses and widths of flat head screws you will find. It is quite lacking in the hex head bits, but just but a kit of metric and standard hex head to accompany it, and you will have most things covered.
 
Theres a small set of about 40 or so in a blue plastic clamshell case at princess auto. I wasn't expecting much but they have been very useful on the gun bench. They actually seem like decent quality and there are some tamper proof Allen and torx in the set as well.
 
Ten bucks will get you a set of long shaft 1/4" drive Torx bits from Amazoon overnight. Though I do recommend the Wheeler products and use them myself I have found the short shafts that come with the set are insufficient length for some types of recessed screws in bases like Talley/Browning for XBolt. I wouldn't bother with Brownells for the screw heads you mentioned. Any quality bit will do. I have Wera and PB Swiss ones.

I have the parallel and thin bits sets from Brownells but I haven't used them in a long time since most of the screws on my guns are torx and hex head screws.
