the browning auto 5 ruled the market for 90 years gauge really makes no difference
if you are looking for one in 16 ga then you pay the price yes they are over priced
sellers in this country look at usa price and think that is the price in canada it does not work that way the usa has a gun culture canada does not
and even in the usa they don't sell for asking prices

Yes. And although 2 1/2" 16 ammo is a bother to source, the early A-5 in short 16 are about as perfect an upland semi-auto can be, in weight, balance and performance. And they can be had for $300 or less, because everyone is put off by the difficult ammo. Early guns have the peculiar safety inside the trigger guard (sometimes called the 'suicide safety'), which requires careful attention!
Where do you find the supplies to load for 2 1/2 16 gauge ammo?. Or where do you get already loaded ammo?. I know of a minty 1937 or 1936 16 gauge I can grab.Yes. I don't reload. I had some flats of short 16 to use in a British hammergun, some of which got cycled through this gun. While hard to find, short 16 is out there, buy it when you can.

Isn't it just? Worn but well-maintained, with the desirable solid rib. I no longer have it, though; I gave it to a son-in-law. I'm not going to live forever, and I've decided to pass on many of my accumulated treasures to family before I go.
Nice guns. They have that odd double shuffle feeling when firing them. Effect of recoil operated action. An older gentleman i know has used one for upland hunting for decades. Told me if you don't lean into an A5 it sometimes doesn't cycle properly. Dont know if thats true or not?

Owned many Auto 5 can take or leave them but the only ones that I have a love affair with are sixties production guns with 26.5 mod vent barrel 16 gauge sweet sixteens. The weight and balance of those guns and the way they swing fits me to a tee, I have been married to my bride for fifty six years and have used a sweet sixteen longer than that, Are they overpriced what isn't nowdays.

Only had 1, not a 16 fan. This one kicked. Sold it to a guy in South Carolina and he resold it as he didn’t like the recoil. Didn’t have the same problem with the few 12s I’ve had. As a user gun there are many better for less money, but as a collector you must decide. For me they have no premium YMMV.
I load 2 1/2" ammo in both 12 and 16 with modern hulls using both black and smokeless powder and have no problem sourcing data or components.
BPI sells both the data and components , and their products are available from several different places.

Hack for shooter's with short chambered Sweet 16 bores. Aguila 16 gauge is more than short enough to run in the short chamber. I have also found Remington Game Loads also run no problem. I use both in my short chambered model 12.
